Hi all
PIcked up my Reflex Silver Edition 30 yesterday and 300 miles later we are in 'like'. Love will come I think but I've had Audi's for nearly 20 years and they're a hard habit to break. The car is a 5 door, DSG with 59K on the clock. Main dealer serviced ( is this good or bad?) from new and visually looks good. It has the RNS 510 satnav radio, armrest with cloth top which seems slightly weird and a very clean interior otherwise. I've already managed to slightly scratch an alloy when I arrived home (doh!) but if thats the worst damage I'll inflict on the car I'm kind of glad.
I've been reading this forum for a few months and have to say what a great resource it is with owners who really know their subject and are happy to share their knowledge. I intend to fit Xenons at some point, rear privacy windows and an iPhone dock and bluetooth kit to integrate with the satnav.
I'll try and put up some pics on the weekend. Now, where's the nearest Alloy Wheel refurbisher??!!
Cheers

Welcome to the forum mate from another reflex sliver Edition 30 owner....also 5 door with DSG :happy2:
I've owned mine now for just over a year and except for the one time I was stuck 5 hours in the snow I have loved the car!
Enjoy the new ride

Thanks. I've had 3 GTI's before - 2 Mk 1 Campaign's and a Mk 2, all back in the 80's! (really feel old now!)
This car really does feel like a little dodgem to drive compared to my old Audi; certainly a lot more fun already. Thanks for your warm welcome. I will report back soon.

Get some pics up when you can
I owned a Mk2 in the early 90's and a Mk4 in the early naughties, both great cars but not a scratch compared with the ED30 which feels grown up as well as a fun toy too

Welcome along :happy2:
The edition 30 is a stonking car, especially as you have bought the best all rounder with 5 door and DSG in my opinion.. But I am biased of course :innocent:

The edition 30 is a stinking car, especially as you have bought the best all rounder with 5 door and DSG MANUAL in my opinion.. But I am biased of course :innocent:

Thanks again for your warm welcome chaps. I feel reassured there are so many fellow GTi owners out there, some of whom have made the move to a Golf from another manufacturer or model and like me right now a little unsure of some of the features and foibles of the new wheels. My Edition 30 has 60K on the clock and the suspension, interior and bodywork don't feel like half this mileage. I'm a little concerned about the engine however which feels a little 'thrashy' but maybe that's just me having driven a super smooth V8 for the past 9 years. Day to day I often drive VW Transporters with 2.0 diesel TDI engines and my Golf whilst loads smoother and quicker has a slightly breathy roughness to it at higher revs.
I checked the engine code and chassis number with the Wolsey service Manager re: coil pack recalls and any other TSB's pertinent to my car but he assured me it was not affected by any recall. The DSG box is a revelation though. I had Tiptronic on the Audi which allowed slightly more direct control of the auto 'box with the steering wheel buttons but the Golf's system is so smooth and slick I wonder if I've actually changed gear at all, the only indication is the rapidly approaching vehicle in front and the speedo whizzing round! I purchased my GTI from Wolsey Ipswich - VW main dealer. I live in SW London and saw the car on the VW website originally. It also was advertised on Autotrader.
I will reserve proper judgement for a few weeks time when I'll have driven a few more miles in different weather and road conditions but it'd be great to hear other peoples first impressions when they initially drove their GTi's, especially Edition 30's. I've a years warranty and 2 main dealer services to come so don't feel unduly concerned if something is wrong with the motor or transmission.
I'm babbling now. Thanks again and look forward to learning more from this forum and driving my Golf. Cheers!

Hi. Had my ED 30 just under a year & can't think of any other car in my price range i would want to change it for. Ref you'r cloth arm rest top?mine is grey leather?. :happy2:
-
Sounds like a nice one you got there, congrats and welcome!.
My armrest top is grey leather too

Fantastic car, had mine for a couple of months now and loving it more every day! Must get it inside for the winter very soon and buy a little 'Polo' run-about lol

Thanks for the replies and greetings gentlemen.
In response to the cloth covered armrest issue, I think my console and armrest was retro-fitted after reading the codes on the sticker in the service book, as it doesn't appear in the list of options. (Seems crazy it was an option to be honest) So I guess it was put in by a dealer or perhaps the previous owner. It also doesn't have the roll top drinks holder beneath the handbrake. I think I may change that! Does anyone know if I can purchase the leather top separately from VW and a part number??
Thanks
