Title: Aerial help
Post by: JPW on October 13, 2011, 11:10:45 am
This morning on reversing out of the garage I managed to rip the aerial off the car as the door slightly closed on it whilst reversing :-(

There appears to be a square connector which is threaded and the aeial screws into this.  This has come through the round hole and will not go back in!

Any tips, or if I have to drop the roof lining to take the base off are there any guides as to how to do this?

Any help is much apprecaited.

sounds as though you've pulled the thread out of the base, probably need a new base?

Yep, thread has been pulled out - and a light dent in the roof which I just noticed :-(

Like the look at that thread will investigate further - thanks!

Me too - thanks for the link.
Let's just say that it's been one of those weeks!

Did you fit one yourself or just find the guide?

you could always upgrade to the oem mk6 shark fin, looks good and might cover the dent

MK5 part no is 1KO 035 507J, but my local VW dealer doesn't know of it will work or not.

I've ordered an aftermarket one off ebay and will see if it's any good first.

VW one is circa £40 inc VAT.

Well the aerial was not a dummy, but the connector was different so I had to take the one from the beesting and fit it to the new one.

Problem arose when I tried to secure the new aerial - think that I managed to strip a thread or two on the aerial so I could not get enough thread engagement for it to fit.

Will be off to VW for a proper one in the morning!

Well ended up buying a dummy VW aerial for £11 instead of £40.
I think that the FM antenna must be in the rear screen as FM is fine, but I decided to go for the dummy as I have never listened to AM in the car, so I no longer have AM reception.
I believe that the AM signal even with the proper sharkfin aerial is dubious anyway!
