Title: Painting grill strips - how?
Post by: tony_danza on April 06, 2009, 12:04:07 pm
I've got a spare red grill trim, so I'm having a crack at painting it a different colour for funsies. I've not painted plastic since I had RC cars, so need some hints...

Do I need to use any particular type of paint and how do I prep it?

As for the colour, all will be revealed

You'll need some wet and dry paper.

I think its already been painted, so you dont really have to worry too much about priming.

just standard primer + Colour + Clearcoat should be a good combo to use.

Rub down with wet and dry then start priming.

id probably say 2-3 coats of primer (if you want to use it)
rub down with 2000 wet and dry after 24 hours

3 coats of colour

wait 24 hours and rub down with wet and dry after the first two coats.

then 4-5 clear coats.

Ok cool.

Off shopping for paint, I'm gonna pimp my ride!

Could just plasti dip it, goes straight onto plastic without primer
