Hello guys,
As I went with 235/40/18 Toyo R888 (wich are actually about 245mm wide), I will have rubbing problems on the track. The only wide fenders I found to look similar to OEm and have a reasonabel widening are these :
1) Kerscher > http://www.kerscher-tuning.de/styling/index.php?marke=VW&typ=Golf+5+%281K%29&gruppe=Kotfl%FCgel+%2F+Seitenteile > 650 Euro . They are 3cm wider than OEM wich should be plenty for me
2) SRS-Tec > http://srs-tec.de/cars/VW/Golf-V/Wide-front-Fender-GT-VW-Golf-V::238.html > 450 Euro . They are also 3cm wider than OEM
The problem is, both state at the description that the fenders accomodate 235/30/20 tires on 9x20 ET46 rims wich makes me believe they are the same !?!? (probably SRS is making them and Kerscher buys from them ?)
If any of you had any experience with these 2 please post them here as the difference in price is considerable (seen the Kerscher on TEFF's Golf 6 R20 and they fit perfectly but don't know about SRS)
-
What do you do with your arch liner once you have these then?
Thought about carbon ones? I'm sure someone posted about some carbon ones a while ago
Jack
-
i have the carbon ones, but they are only 10mm wider than stock. :ashamed:
-
I knew about those but not wide enogh as Danish said. The arch liner extensions are included with both fenders !

I'm very interested in you findings Fuscobal as i consider these instead of the Seibon CF i have now. :drinking:
-
Would I be right in thinking that the front bumper just flex's to the extra width of the new wings?
-
After I've read the thread on Golf5GTI.com I would definitely go for Kerscher.
Guys who have seen both tell that the quality is MUCH better than SRS tec.
-
Can you please provide me a link Bruce ? I will probably purchase one of them in january so must know the right choice !
Found something here but google translation sucks > http://translate.google.com/translate?sl=de&tl=en&js=n&prev=_t&hl=en&ie=UTF-8&layout=2&eotf=1&u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.golfv.de%2Fboard52-karosserie-anbauteile%2F139769-srs-tec-o-kerscher-kotis-an-front-anpassen%2F > anyway, from there, I understand people are satisfied with SRS-tec also !

I know Kerscher for more than 20 years. They were (and still are) known for the
finest qualitly in glass fiber reinforced fenders since I had several air cooled beetles.
I personally haven't seen a SRS tec fender, but I wouldn't take any risk just to save
100 Euros. Remember Danish's poor Seibon fenders.
-
Bumpola
Any other options? How much wider tyre could be fitted with 3cm extra???
-
Both fuscobal and myself have gone for the Kerscher ones.
I think fuscobal is planning on installing them at the beginning of March and I hope to be able to have them fitted sooner. I will post some pictures once I have the fenders on the car.
To answer your question, I would say a 245mm wide tire would fit with a ET 45 8 inch wide (like TD) rim.
But, I think there would be some problems fitting a 245mm wide tire on the back. :sad1:
-
Thanks, look forward to the pictures :happy2:
-
It also depends if the TT arms are installed. For a car with OEM arms, probably even 255 is ok for the fronts but as rex says can't have any guarantee for the rear ! Of course all of these depend largely on the suspension setup (height and stiffness)
-
Why not just run wider up front where it's needed??
Same trick the RS3 does :happy2:
Still haven't found funds for these fenders, so awaiting both Fuscobal and REX photos
-
That's the plan Jake!
But some wider track is also needed in the back. Here, modifying the fender is more difficult so I plan to remain stock at the moment.
-
As this is probably a more visited topic than my build thread I will post some pictures about the preliminary fitting of the Kerscher fenders:
Fitting the Kerscher wings.
The guys made a test and they fit very well. I want to see the finished product before saying anything else, but the future looks promising.

The inner wheel arch has to be modified. I marked with a red line the area that has to be removed. The Kerscher inner fenders will be bolted to the remaining OEM inner Wheel arch.

Cool but u forgot the most important > pic with the wheel straight relative to the 2 wings ! :)
-
The car was on a stand and I could not do take that shoot.
I have some pictures on the camera with the stock fenders and I have marked the car position and the camera position so that I can repeat the photos with the Kerscher fenders. Hope that will work.
-
Perfect :)

As promised, here is a partial review of the Kerscher fenders:
First of all, the difference between these fenders and OEM fenders is ~1.2 kg/ piece:
Stock

Kerscher

Than, fitment... Well, it is not quite perfect. On the left side of the car the fitment is perfect (better than OEM):
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1237.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fff469%2Fvladpanut%2Fupload_P2257642.jpg&hash=2fc376dcb1d787ad911e09c20fb160aee1895484)
On the right side things are not quite the same... There is a gap on the fender and the front bumper:
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1237.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fff469%2Fvladpanut%2Fupload_P2257640.jpg&hash=f204d8651121de700c917263d96b46ac3e3b6fde)
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1237.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fff469%2Fvladpanut%2Fupload_P2257635.jpg&hash=6c8af5c26430c3609c24ba463829316dd9a10b78)
And there is some space between the fender and the headlight. But, the fender is aligned with the hood so I guess there was some space with the OEM fender too:
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1237.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fff469%2Fvladpanut%2Fupload_P2257639.jpg&hash=65d6a373a3dfee48b24cb557b537b6c65dffd08f)
All of the other joints or lines are perfect.
So, the fenders are not quite perfect but good enough (at least for my standards).
The fenders extend quite a lot and I like the look of the car with the new fenders.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1237.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fff469%2Fvladpanut%2Fupload_P2257634.jpg&hash=23d50d9978b772c6e9587d6593ff52c314762691)

Please don't mind the front left RLine grille. It has not arrived yet and I needed the car.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1237.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fff469%2Fvladpanut%2Fupload_P2257649.jpg&hash=bb97a87bac8baa89c0218a475520a7c8ffb5395a)

And to make the post even longer, here are some shots with the OEM fenders and the Kerscher fenders.
I tried to have the same angle but it is not quite the same. I hope this helps anyway...

All the best! :drinking:
P.S. I Still have to make some photos of the inner fender but that will only happen when I change the winter wheels.
-
excellent REX, looks good and i can see there are small fitment issues compared to the Seibon fenders.
Looking forward to you getting some real size wheels on
-
Excellent review, Rex !!
The fenders still look stock, but compared side by side the difference is clearly visible.

Ha ha...
I guess having no fitment issues is a hard thing to find :happy2:.
I suspect the track wheels are not wider than these ones. These are ET50 with 20mm spacers on the front (to clear the brakes) and the tires are 205.
The fenders still look stock, but compared side by side the difference is clearly visible.
True. That's what I like most about them.
