Title: Tartan seats
Post by: diesel junior on October 17, 2011, 11:27:58 am
Hola amigos y greetings from sunny Spain. Great car the Gti but i just cant get comfortable in it and would appreciate some advice. At present i have the tartan seats and am thinking of changing them as my back doesnt agree with them sadly and if things dont improve i may well have to sell the car. First up tho a visit to the scrappy may be in order as i could try and fit the leather ones or maybe 'simpler' seats from a lower model mark V. Stupid question but they would fit wouldnt they? The runners underneath would be the same? I see mark iv seats on e bay and they are generally much cheaper but they wouldnt fit would they? One other thing, my car is LHD, if i were to locate some in a UK scrappy would they fit ok. Sorry if this is a daft question.....OK any advice much appreciated....

Seems silly. But have you tried adjusting the lumbar support?

you can fit the other MK5 seats in yours without modding.
MK4 and other seats would need the runners welded/sawn to fit.
Also if you bought some seats from the UK there would be no issue with fitting them either as far as I can imagine. :happy2:

Hi folks thanks for the replies, yes i did try the lumbar support but to no avail. Anyway, the cavalry has arrived in the form of a Sportline interior from a scrapyard in Valencia so tomorrow will be the big day once i get my mitts on one of those XZN spline drives, i think its a 10mm IIRC. One quick thing, how long do i need after disconnecting the battery before i can get to work without airbag pyrotechnics? An hour long enough? Regards from sunny Spain..... :happy2:

If you are only taking seats out then you should not have to disconnect the battery. really only for driver/passenger airbags.
Although this is not required either.
