Title: Tfsi Mikes Money Pit II : Baby Harry! :D
Post by: Tfsi_Mike on October 17, 2011, 10:47:30 pm
Has been a long emotional day.  Tfsi_Wife, Natalie gave birth to my son Harry this morning 6.5 weeks before he was due.

Had a rough night & I rang the midwife who advised we go and get seen to at hospital, a 45min drive (next to where I work).  We'd been there 30 - 40 mins and out he came!

He's a little poorly but is in good hands, the hospital here is another world to what Ive visited back home.

Since this time last year had the most relentless streak of bad luck and although he's early and fighting infection seeing my boy today made me feel like nothing I've felt before  :ashamed:

Just had to share before I fall asleep, exhausted!

Still looking forward to holding him, killing me him not having laid on his mum yet.  He was taken staright to ICU, stable on a ventilator.  The peadiatrician sounds confident  everything is going to be alright.  Am so so so glad we wasnt on the road to the Uk when he came.

Seeing him born was overwhelming the only thing I could think of that came remotley close was jumping out of a plane!

Mate.... We had our twins at 32weeks +4 days, trust the NeoNatal people they do an excellent job.....if you need reassuring head down the ward and see the mums and dads with the 25 weekers....

Infection is common as are breathing probs, they probably didnt get to get the lung development steroids in if it happened that quickly, they'll be on antibiotics/vitamins/fluids 02 enriched environment with humidity controlled because of the skin....

Give them a couple of days to get sorted and they'll be wrapping them up and handing them to you.....First cuddle = dad crying like a good'un perfectly normal.

Before you know it you'll have a bruiser, there's lot of studies premy babies before 30 weeks can have issues later on, 30wks+ and they'll grow up perfectly A1ok

Well done to mum - this is where the fun starts - get sorted at home you may not see them home for another 3-5 weeks get fully sorted and ready for the proudest moment of your life when you walk out of the place with him in his car seat....I had one in each hand and stopped traffic - awesome

Well done to you both......and wish you and he family all the best!!  :happy2:

This is whats called 'unconditional love' nothing can/will ever come close to it, and it builds as they get older. My son is 9 now, going on 29. I was young and selfish, having him was the best thing ever < I would give up everything and anything for him, no question!!

Only wish < he could stay a child, he will be 18 before I know it.

Picture moments < about two years ago, boy loves washing the car, come out to find him cleaning the car with the GREEN side of the scouring pad  :signLOL:

Oh mike :ashamed:

Well done matey :happy2: don't worry to much though! If it's any consolation I was born 12weeks early and now I'm 6ft and 15st. I was 2,1/2lb when I was born (bag of sugar) and I spent a while in an incubator. That was with 70's technology too. Hospitals are amazing nowadays

Congrats!

As each day passes, it can only get better. If Natalie can manage it (some mothers have difficulty or don't persevere) Breast Is Best! <-- Much more natural goodies which create good health. Also, much more likely to reduce sleepless nights. Both mine were breast fed and we never had sleepless nights with either, 4 years apart - It's not a foregone conclusion. Helps to have the baby sleep with you both too.

Do what you feel is natural rather than follow all the text books.

Congrats buddy! Must make a badly running car seem sooo insignificant!

Being a parent is the best thing in the world! And don't breast feeding if you can't/don't want too... our daughter couldn't be to start with so with "expressed" for about a month, but she always slept better and was fuller on SMA milk, and she's as bright as a button and very healthy so it's all a load of Bull, just do what you feel best and just ENJOY! I used to love when my little girl would sleep on me for 4hrs while I watched a film... and now she's just started nursery at 2 3/4 and is loving it...

All you need now is your car unning sweet and life will be perfect ;)

RR imho(or in MY point of view) it is "a load of Bull"(dunno why you have to question someone else's PoV/opinion), food nutrition science has come on a fair bit and there's no way of distinct saying Breast is Best... but then again, you think a UNiBrace doesn't have any effect on the MK5!  :P

....Not so much questioning your opinion but merely defending my own. The word "science" says it all: Science is merely mankind's theory. I think that Nature's way of mother to offspring feeding across so many species trumps such ideas whether they be conveniently proven within scientific parameters or not. Scientists like to think they know better.

'Nuff said.

Well done, Mike - 3 weeks and counting for me.

No doctor, scientist, food specialist, midwife or anyone else worth their salt would dare say anything is better than breast milk.... the fact is though, substitutes are formulated to be absolutely 100% of what baby needs - breast milk just has the extras you can't add to formula.

Amazing news mate, so pleased for both of you. Just counting down the weeks until our second arrives.

Oh and please don't listen to any opinions about breastfeeding from men who are more used to taking about cars. Trust the healthcare professionals who, I think, have a little bit more of an idea what they're talking about.

....Don't talk to me about so-called 'healthcare professionals'! I've had several years experience of dealing with them and I had to fight Great Ormond Street hospital in court... The High Court... And I won. They all have the very best intentions and I respect them for that, but they do NOT know it all as so many of them very arrogantly claim. Very narrow minded bunch too [/rant]

Some of us are a little broader in both our interests and areas of expertise than just cars. With age comes experience.

Thanks so much for the congrats & wishes means alot.  My head is all over the place atm!    Kind of hasnt hit home yet!

Harry had a blood transfusion this evening as his red blood cell count dropped & his infection was worse.  The doctors have kept us informed and the language barrier isnt there, it's as if we're in an english hospital!  :congrats:  German hospitals, medicine & practice seems streets ahead of back home, so so glad he was born here.

Heard him whimper & then later heard him cry, brought tears to my eye as he hasnt made a sound since he was born

without sounding like a pillock.....

Interviewed a  number of breast pumps mate..........(well wifey did)

Medella Swing.....its the RS4 of BP's, he needs mums early Latte's mate - colustrum=big and strong, nutriprem 1 or 2 only does so much.

After the colostrums gone (2 weeks or so) then the breastfeeding debate can rage on, its also Gucci for the neonatal best practise to have specialist breast feeding midwives or nurses to help out.....find her!/him

Congratulations Mike, get the camera busy and use as many SD cards as you can, every picture will be precious.
Best wishes to all of you,  :drinking:
Regards,
John.
ps do we still have BMH over there or was it a civvy hospital? Both of mine were born in the Fatherland, one in Hanover and one in Rinteln. I think they're both blocks of trendy apartments now!

He was born in St Vincentz, German civvy hospital  :happy2:  My boy is German!  :scared:

Was distressing yesterday for mummy & me yesterday as Harry had some small seizures and struggled with his oxygen and heart rate.
Have had a read of some reasurring stuff courtesy of DaveB, it sounds common but is still hard to see & come to terms with cause he's our little baby boy.

The nurses are going to give us  a towel or something with Harrys scent on to introduce to the winston at home

I had to register mine at the British Consulate in Hanover within a certain time or they would both be German nationals and subject to National Service in the lad's case.
I melted the pistons on my knackered Fiat 125 twin cam going there so that was a day to remember. :stupid: Happy days.

this actually happened to a mate of mine when he was posted to germany.  He was originally born in germany and not registered in time by his parents.    He got detained at hannover airport for not turning up for his conscription despite him being in the BRITISH  army already.  They had him for a good couple weeks before it was all quashed

Little trooper was taken out of the incubator and put in a heated bed   He's been drinking every 2 hours every 2nd feed he has the energy to suck about 35ml from a bottle

Been able to hold him and change him a few times now     Where possible the nurses have let us be as hands on as possible

He's fought off his infection and may well be taking medicine when he comes home to control the little seizures (Going to be a nervous wreck at home!) but he may very well beat the seizures too when they reduce his medicine, little angel :)

He's a little angel, done so well. Been worrying about the MRI, there is a white spot of bleeding on his brain on the ultra sound.  The doctor said it isn't getting worse and he isn't worried about it but then why they think he needs the MRI Im not sure. Keep missing the doctor between feeds :(

Thanks VC  :happy2:

Its so cliché the whole "they grow so fast, time flies" but he's stacking on the weight now he's on formula.  Was away last week when i got home couldn't believe how
Much he'd grown!

Mate they really do grow fast.....mine are 14 and 9 and I still find it hard to work out where that time went with them, love them just as much but I do miss the early years

I'm really paternal so always relish the chance of cuddles with other peoples newborns when the opportunity arises
