does anyone know if S3 front brakes can go straight onto a mk5?
-
Yes. S3/R32/Cupra brakes are all essentially the same. Lots of people have done the upgrade.
-
Yes, need new lines
-
Will they fit behind 17's?
-
Will they fit behind 17's?
yes they will. the S3 shares brakes with the A3 3.2 quattro that was available from the factory in "Sport" trim with standard 17" alloys so there's no doubt they fit behind 17s
-
Just echo the above, I have seen them (in the flesh) sitting behind a set of 17" zeniths on an Octavia vRS.
-
345mm S3 brakes? Arnt the mk5 R32 brakes the same? If so I guess 17's will clear R32 brakes? (I presumed 345mm was too big for 17's?
-
Almost, I think there are some very subtle differences which make the S3 slightly better, looks wise the later S3 caliper has wing like protrusions at the top and bottom -

But both R32 and S3 brakes fit under 17's? (As you can tell the key here is finding cheap (ish) brakes I can fit under 17's

It will depend on the offset and design of the wheel as well, they will fit under the OE 17" GTi wheels which are 7.5j et51, vRS Carl has them behind his 18" Neptune wheels (face lift Octavia vRS OE wheels) and he had to grind a small amount off the caliper due to the wheel design.
-
Yeah I can play with wheel design and offsets and spacers but its the caliper to inside of wheel I was worried about.

In that case 17" will be the smallest. :happy2: But to be safe I would have a look for a nice set of 19's.........

I hope these are not to go on your monster TT. :chicken: The R32/S3 set up is a good upgrade over standard, but i dont think they would be sufficient with your horse power unless you are fitting a parachute as well.
I had B5 RS4 front brakes under my 17in track wheels. These had 360mil discs but just scraped under.

TT has 6 pots from a GT2. These are for Golf. Very intresting you can fit RS4 under 17's! Info? Pics?

I have them with 17" 7.5J et56 (oem A3 wheels) and fit with no problems!
-
Ah I thourght you were talking the RS8 pots :signLOL:
-
i have a as new set of s3 fronts if anyones interested, they were takenoff a couple of weeks ago
-
How much can you pick up a set of S3 fronts for these days?

Ask grizzly79 ^^^ lol
They go for between £350 - £450 depending on condition etc
-
At £40 postage and looking at the condition I would give them a miss! :surprised:
-
But for that price your looking at NQSBBK which Is why I went for them, they look nice,r same sort of braking but no way has heavy has the S3/R32 calipers.
Worth looking into both options IMO
Darren
-
Darren, how much was your NQSBBK?
-
The actual calipers cost me £200 few bits and bats to get them upto scratch so calipers in total to how they are now £250 plus the fitting kit ontop around £500 in total,
You could easily exceed that if your having to buy new discs and pads on the S3/R32 set, the good thing is you can buy discs for the gti cheap enough and pads for the porsche you can pick up for the same has the GTI/VRS.
Darren
Note: If your after any Porsche calipers speak to Steve @ Douglas Salvage 01257472866

Thanks for the that Darren, tbh I will still go for the R32/S3/Cupra set up, purely for the additional size, my current 312mm set up looks completely lost behind the BBS CH reps.
I'm really hoping for the S3 as I think the calipers look better, gizzly79 had agreed to sell me his, but he might have to keep them now as the TT-RS set up may be fooked........... :sad1:
