Hello gentlemen
I'm acutely aware I haven't posted any photographs of my Edition 30 yet; just need a clear few days without any work which coincides with decent weather. I will get something up soon.
Wondering if anyone has retro fitted OEM privacy tints on a 5 door GTi or Edition 30? I think the privacy glass looks good and may protect the inside from prying eyes.....I'm not a fan of the tinting films - a number of friends have tried it and it always seems to get scratched or peels and looks cr*p!
My previous car (Audi A6 4.2V8) had problems with window guides breaking causing inoperative front and rear passenger windows and i managed to disassemble the window frame and window, motor and subframe and replace the little pink guides that I believe are similar on Golf Mk 4's and break regularly. I'm thinking that if I can do that job, the Golf shouldn't be too hard? Or am I very wrong?!
Any idea about difficulty and price and if the privacy glass is available from stealers?

Its actually very easy to change the windows on the mk5 especially the 5dr if your willing to take the door skins off then its even easier.
When I bought my golf the fronts where tinted, very light but I wanted the standard windows back in so managed to pick some up cheap and changed the fronts...
Take the door handle and lock/blanks out then undo all the little bolts around the inside of the door and off pops the skin then its just 2 bolts holding the windows in, Its more or less the same on all the door you'll just have to get the rear screen done??

i got the pre cut film on ebay US for the coupe, and it went on and looks brilliant, even one year later. u just need to be very careful patient installing it....
never did the back window tho, it was too big and awakward and just a general eff up all round!cant fault the film tho

As usual with this fantastic forum,"Ask and ye shall find"!! The part numbers and "how to guide" are great. Despite some other opinions, I think I'll go with the actual glass rather than an applied film.
On the subject of glass I just looked at my windscreen and its not a VW OEM part nor has it the same green tint as the rest of the glass. My RNS 510 has a long list of previous European destinations in its memory which possibly explains the new windscreen after the previous owner had a cross-continent dash to catch a ferry I mused!
I drove to Northern France on Tuesday morning for work(the RNS 510 has the Western European maps installed thankfully) used the Le Shuttle for the first time - very quick and easy - and the car was brilliant. The fantastically smooth French tarmac really suits the standard set-up but I'm beginning to see why people get the upgrade bug. Not sure where to start though.....? Any simple mods I should go for??

You could start by lowering on some Eibach/H&R springs, this will tighten up the ride.
