I have an 05 plate GTI and am planning on doing something with the stereo & speaker set up, all on the cheap (reasonably)
I have just got a spare nearly new RCD300 same as whats in the car at the moment and am planning on adding preouts to it (seems simple enough). I wouldnt mind an upgrade but like the stock look and as i mentioned its going to be on the cheap :wink: so im carrying out the mods on the spare unit. I have a VW Ipod adaptor for the HU so thats going in with a Brodit cradle.
Then im planning on doing a subtle boot install with a Diamond audio 10" D1 sub mounted in a FG build around the wheel arch which will be covered in a carpet matching to the boot lining. The sub is reasonably thin and need a small volume enclosure so should be able to fit in without jutting into the boot too much. I already have a sub that i never got round to fitting in an old build. The amp will be mounted in the same manner on the other side of the boot. I have a 4ch DLS amp from an old build that im using for this. Plan is to have the whole lot hidden as such so that it looks stock at a glance.
All i need to get hold of is a suitable set of fronts. Im assuming that they are 3 ways up front? Does anyone know what size the drivers are? I have some sound deadening matting that im going to coat the inner doors with so really im just after some suggestions for the components. Looking to spead around £300. What do people suggest / what are people running?

It's been a while since I researched this but the fronts are 16.5" 3-way comps. The only ones that fit in the same place are a set of Rainbow speakers. Otherwise you'll need baffles to fit the speakers
Think mine are Hertz HSK16.3.

I'm guessing yours will be 3-way up front since you've an early MK5... however the later models have only 2-ways up front :confused: cost cutting at its best...
