Trying to set up the xbox tonight and I have hit a problem. I have gone in to the connection settings on the xbox where I got a setup code, then the next page says to visit www.xbox.com/pcsetup - so I go to this site and there is nothing like a set up........
I have gone in to wmplayer 11 and enabled sharing and it finds the xbox, but the xbox still can't find the pc???
I wonder if its due to my prehistoric set up, I am currently running Windows xp Sp2 (not the media centre which could be the problem) my internet connection is via a bt home hub which is wireless, the pc itself isn't?

it's because you bought a rubbish console.
buy a PS3 :P

If I remember correctly on your PC, you have to turn enable file sharing, both WMP and general PC settings, and make your PC 'searchable/visable' for your Xbox to see. This is for PS3, so I would imagine its a fairly same routine for the XBox. I was only successful once in doing this but this was before a ton of updates were needed, so it was very tempremental anyway. One way round which i found out by accident, was using a wireless card plugged into the laptop. Im pretty sure you could buy a seperate wireless card cheap these days to plug into your PC.
Hope that helps. :happy2:

Don't listen to the philistine Lee.
You defo need media PC for XP. Vista Premium and 7 Premium have it built in.
EDIT: I lie. Try here http://forums.hexus.net/general-gaming-chatter/100209-problems-setting-up-xbox-360-xp-pc-streaming-media.html

Has above Pagey the xbox works off the media centre so if it cannot find it it will not pull any info across.

I have tried a few things now, including downloading PS3 Server, but nothing seems to work. Just bought a laptop with Windows 7 today so I'm hoping I will link it up to that.

It should do. I have also struggled when using wireless laptop and wired 360.

:surprised: I am hoping it will link via a wireless connection!! The xbox is linked to my home hub wirelessly and so will the laptop...... :sad1:

Now I'm really pished.....
New laptop arrived this morning - Windows 7 so Media Center included - after initial set up I tried to configure the Xbox, after several attempts it finally worked. However the first time I tried to access it to try it out, it failed to connect, now I am getting the same message that connection has failed, I'm starting to think I should change my name to Dr Allan Grant of Jurassic Park fame as we seem to share a similar problem around technology....... :sad1:
Can anyone enlighten me?
EDIT: FYI, the connection between the laptop and Xbox is wireless, as is the connection from the Xbox to the home hub!

Why dont you try it wired and see if that works?
-
Tbh I don't think that will make any difference, on set up if finds the extender but the error occurs during the configuration stage.
