After months and months of looking for a new car, from A3's, GTI's clio sports I finally settled on a mini cooper s. The car has most options and it cost me £600 on top of what I got for the golf. Its a fantastic little car, proper happy that I went for it. It handles really well and the supercharger sounds good haha! Ill get some pics up soon.
I hope people dont mind me staying around here, I have looked for a mini forum but non are as good as this one. I want to do some performance and handling mods to it but I need to research the best things to do. I have heard of a pulley reduction (I have no idea what this is, something to do with the supercharger?) so Ill be having a look on the net.
:happy2:
-
Bugger off only GTI's on here. :rolleye:
Little vid to explain superchargers and why the smaller pulley helps.
-
Says Mr Lotus! :booty: :signLOL:
Arhh thanks for those TC, very educational! :happy2:
-
I'm glad you got something that you're happy with Ollie :happy2:
They're certainly not a bad car at all.
-
Enjoy the fuel economy :signLOL: is crap oh try get a John cooper works air box and the charger too off eBay. I have had a couple of em but the cooper works I had was good fun
-
Funny car these, people really rate them but I just don't, must be a marmite thing, glad you got something you like

Cheers Pete, I would have liked a GTI but I did not want to spend the stupid amount on insurance. £2.5k for the standard car with no mods!
Yeah I am extremely happy. Went for a little spin last night down some B roads and its like a go kart haha. I cant wait to do a few mods to make it better! :happy2:

Yeah I dont expect much from the fuel but I have a company car to so I don't really mind. Saying that I got 36 average on the way back from picking it up (170 miles, mostly motorway).
Ill have a look cheers :happy2:

Like most cars, people like different things. I love the supercharger whine haha :happy2:

Check out 1320mini they have a good rep in the scene and can get you 230bhp relatively cheaply in the R53 Cooper S.
-
good choice :happy2: i nearly got one as a toy so the mrs can have a sensible car!  love them still may get one in the future a good friend of mine had one running some good power, 17% smaller pulley done at Lohen(very good mini tuning company) then remap, airfilter, 4 2 1 manifold, full decat exhaust and it went like a rocket!!

Thanks mate, I'll have a look. What do you think is involved in getting that sort of power?

Cheers Mitch. I love it too, tbh before I bought it I wasn't sure, but now I'm so glad I did, I love it! Can't wait to do a few mods!

Usually Smaller pulley for the supercharger, cooler plugs, intake and maybe an inter-cooler, depends how small you go on the pulley. The smaller you go the more heat is produced.
They normally do a compression & leek down test and on phase 2 cars they find they get 190bhp standard then build on from there. Don't normally have to map until you go to a manifold and de cat or sport cat.
check out www.minitorque.com great place for info.

I am currently looking for a set of lightweight wheels for my mini. The PCD is 4x100 and I want 17" I think. Anyone got any suggests for a set of lightweight wheels? I have been looking at the team dynamics 1.2's but want to see if there are any others before I buy. :happy2:
1.2s

What colour do you reckon to go for on a grey mini like this: Black?

OZ & Speedline would be the obvious two routes wouldn't they chap? Some Turini's would look great on a CoopS
-
I dont really know too much on the lightweight wheels, when I had my golf I looked for style more than practical. Ill have a look at those to cheers pete :happy2:
-
Is this car still floating about?!
-
Did you get any alloys in the end Ollie? :happy2:

No Pete, Funnily enough that is my task today, to buy new wheels and tyres. I have been looking at these:

I have been looking at the yoko prada spec 2's to put on them.
Havent decided yet though haha! :xmassmiley:
-
Assuming they weight a similar amount I'd choose those over the TDs.
-
Yeah they are about 7kg each i think, which is better than the 12kg of the standard wheels
-
I like them. :happy2:
Parada Spec 2s are however, utterly garbage - try something else.

A decent summer sport, such as a Goodyear Asym 2, Pilot Sport 3, Yoko AD08 etc.
Those spec 2s are good in the dry, but shocking in the wet and fall apart if you overheat them.
-
Thanks Tony, ill have a look. What size would I need on a 7.5 rim? The standards on the mini are 205/45/17 I believe
-
205s might look a bit stretched on a 7.5 - maybe a 215 or 225?? Some of the Mini forums are probably more help for that, as the aspect ratio will have to be altered if you go much wider.
-
Liking them wheels Ollie, they would look great all black. Similar to mine. :happy2:

Yeah I think a 215. The mini wheel is 7 wide I think. :happy2:
They are very similar TC. The only other wheel I was looking at apart from the pr2 are these:
http://www.larkspeed.com/index.pl?p=OZALLEGG17MB&a=i# (http://www.larkspeed.com/index.pl?p=OZALLEGG17MB&a=i#)
At nearly £300 a wheel with no tyres I am finding it hard to justify spending that amount of money, even though they look great imo and are only 6.3kg!
-
Also do you like those tyres TC? :happy2:
-
Have you done much engine mod wise? Might be getting one of these as a toy and keeping my jetta as a daily! Love the charger noise!
-

The OZ wheels are very nice too. :happy2:
Those tyres are developed with Lotus they are A408 LTS slightly stiffer side wall than the normal A408. From what i have read from the Lotus boys they are not quite as good as R888, but this is due to balance problems rather than grip. I am still on the factory originals and they have worked well on track. :driver:

Havent done any work to the engine yet. They are pretty nippy as standard (came from a 1.6 golf :ashamed:). I will be getting a Dave.f, reduced pulley, plugs and maybe an exhaust which should give it a little boost. The noise is great haha!

oh right! From what I have read the AD08 is a good tyre. £500 for a set fitted. The only thing I am worried about is the wear rate. (180). I dont know how long a set is going to last? I don't do major mileage in it but I dont want to get them and they only last 3000k or something! What is the wear rate on yours? :happy2:

The rears will be 3000, maybe 5000 for the fronts. :rolleye:
