Title: Selling car to a buyer from Ireland
Post by: Jonboy72 on October 28, 2011, 07:59:40 pm
Have a guy from Edition 38 who is interested in buying my golf. If it all goes as planned, he will fly to Stansted where i'll take him for a decent test drive in the Golf, then i'll pay the cash into the local Natwest and he will drive to the ferry and back to Ireland

My question is what do I need to do on the V5? Do i put his name and Irish address as the new owner? or fill in the permanent export bit? Just don't want to end up with loads of speeding tickets etc (which happened to me many moons ago with an aircooled beetle)

Thanks

J

Im sure but if it isnt clearly stated on v5 form give dvla a call or check their website. They aren't the most helpful or easy to get information out of in my past experience but hopefully you should find out the answer.

If the car is going to Northern Ireland there is a bit of info if you scroll down this page (I sold one to NI 3 years ago):

If it's going to southern Ireland give him the full V5. He will need it to register it in Ireland.

What I tend to do is create a separate receipt.
Put the sellers name and address, and the buyers name and address on it, along with the vehicle details along with the exact time that the vehicle changes ownership. Both parties date, time, and then sign.

This way if he gets a speeding ticket on his way home, you have the exact time the vehicle was given to him, with proof.
