Title: Undertaking 6 monthly detail - ran out of daylight!
Post by: Andy_GTI on October 30, 2011, 05:28:06 pm: Hi everyone, I started detailing my car today, I've managed to get the following done:

Wash car with snow foam lance then 2 bucket method, then dry
Wash dry and seal the alloys, dress the tyres
Degrease, wash and dress the engine bay
De-tar the body work
Wash bodywork and dry again
Clay the body work

But I've now ran out of daylight! My question is, when we finally get another dry day, will I be ok to just wash and dry the car again before finishing the detail by polishing, waxing and sealing the bodywork? Bearing in mind I'm not fortunate enough to garage the car overnight. Any help would be much appreciated!

Depends how long you leave it for though, if its a while it may be worth while after washing have a look over to see if you've picked up anymore tar etc.

Haha, I knew someone would ask that! Lol I can get some after shots tomorrow but no step by step shots unfortunately - I always forget and to be honest, I dont think my work warrants photos! :signLOL:

Post by: stealthwolf on October 30, 2011, 09:50:52 pm: I'd probably have split the detail. Spend one day on the wheels - take them off the car. Do the engine on another day. And get up earlier!

I was up at 0600 and washed the entire car. Cleaned up the front end - had to do it in the garage because of the rain. Meant I could only do the front 1/3rd of the car!

Post by: Andy_GTI on November 03, 2011, 09:27:01 pm: Hi all, managed to complete the detail yesterday, started by washing the car (again!) drying, then polishing by hand using Mezerna 203s and a light cutting pad. A base coat of Werkstadt Acrylic was then added, followed by 3 coats of Werkstadt Jett. The photos were taken after approx 50 miles of driving in dry weather (yep forgot to get the photos again lol) and im not 100% satisfied with the results if im honest. I might have to invest in a DA machine polisher for the spring time!

Post by: Andy_GTI on November 05, 2011, 11:19:41 pm: Mine are pretty much identical to Stealthwolfs, theyre the original rim refurbed by S.E.M. in Sunderland - did a good job, had them on about 6months now and no sign of the dreaded white worm yet (washed weekly!)
