meh...not bad
-
Looks hooooge next to the Mk1.
-
Interesting that they mention the increased stiffness of the 3-door body. It's a comment I've read on a few occasions about the Mk6, but never the MK5. Makes sense of course, just wondering if the same applies to previous generations...
-
Is ok, but I cant help but think if you want a Mk 6 you would be better just getting a R with 1 owner on the book or if budget cant stretch just the Gti
-
A few of the guys at Evo have said they'd have one over an R. I guess it's a similar scenario to the Edition 30 / R32 debate. How much does 4wd really add to these cars, other than in very poor road conditions...
-
I'd much prefer it to the R, for the few days a year where the faux4WD is a benefit - there's the 3 hundred and odd other days it's a PITA carrying around a load of dead weight.
I'd gladly be given an ED35 :happy2:
-
Any difference to the exterior minus the alloys?
Half leather standard?
Was saying today that I would love another Golf. Getting quite a few in at work and walking round Global Autocares workshop for half an hour didnt help my craving.

Yeah, my sentiments exactly.

Half leather standard?
Front splitter and side skirts are different, plus it gets gloss black mirror housings and a few "35" decals. I think leather is a no-cost option, though I may be wrong.
I think Evo have got it nailed when they describe it as the "mature hot hatch". Golf's just have a totally different feel to the competition.
-
think ill keep my eddy and 15k id need to buy this. Why oh why do they still put those sh*t GTI brakes on it!!

To be fair, I think if you're driving your GTI hard enough on public roads to need better brakes then you're driving it too hard.
-
Why would the cupra and S3 and R32 all get 345mm??? The Ed 30 was faster from the factory all but top speed over the R32!
-
Well the S3 and R32 are 200kg heavier...
-
So power to weight would be similar? And the cupra......
-
I'm not sure why power-to-weight would come into it? When you're hauling a car down from high speed power doesn't come into it, but weight does. Look at Caterhams and Elises for example. Big power-to-weight, but pretty small brakes.
Oh and the Seat, well they have to try all sorts to get people to buy them
-
all GTIs come with leather these days, Ed35 on continent comes with check cloth, the superb looking Ed35 trim or leather, in the UK its leather only, if you spec up a GTI with similar options to the Ed35 you are looking at similar money, in reality car prices have gone u in last 3 years having seen what my rocco would be in GT trim i'd be £4k up on the list three years ago :happy2:

Looks sexy in Candy white

Lol, it's not a golf forum! I think the ed35 looks nice, and seems well priced with its rivals, would I buy one? No, but I wouldn't spend that sort of money on any fwd hot hatch.
-
Lol, it's not a golf forum!
It's more the repeated bollocks about true petrolheadism. The general consensus is if it isn't RWD, has 300bhp/tonne and a manual 'box then it's not worthy. It's a bit tiresome really.
-
Do seat inserts come as standard yet? :signLOL:

I get you but to be fair that is true, hot hatches are a compromise, quick, handle well and can get kids in etc... Don't get me wrong I obviously love em, but none are amazing to drive, and I'm sure most gti owners have bought there cars as a compromise, all be it a good one :happy2:
-
I totally agree, but it's not always relevant that you can get an early 996 GT3 for the same money :signLOL:
There seems to be a hang up on a particular set of criteria that a car must meet to even be mentioned on the site, yet alone reviewed, yet this seems to come from the cavemen inhabiting the forum, not the people running the site.
Anyway, we digress.

Yeah those comments ate funny, I would rather have an older gt3 for 30k! Lol really??? Anyway I like the 35

Some people adopt a persona on forums, to 'fit in'. Thankfully only happens on here to a very small degree, you know the kind of "I'd rather walk than drive a <insert non-VAG car> clowns. Would you really?? or anti-Police threads are another favourite of mine. Big heroics, not.
The tits on PHs are the ones shouting loudest trying to be noticed and gain some sort of acceptance from the elders by spouting what they think they want to hear. Funny things forums, they turn rational people into idiots and give idiots a voice.

Looks great in white.
-
Mmm, tempted in white with 19s. Given that it's not a limited edition, wonder what deals can be had? Maybe best to wait until Spring to allow the initial must have at any cost orders to have been processed!
-
Definately deals to be done having just come back from ordering a 3 door Ed 35 in carbon greyhound replace the scirocco and didn't pay list :happy2:

Excellent move, only managed to keep my Scirocco 8 weeks before I returned to a Golf.
-
Mm, looks ok, local salesman grabbed me today while I was at the stealers picking up some parts, asked me if i wanted to be put on his list for test drive when it arrives, said I would take a look at my leasuire and see what i thought, no intention of buying one but would be interesting comparison to make against the Ed30
-
Looks very nice in white!
One of my mates is a sales manager for VW and said he is looking forward to getting these in as they should be great to drive!
I wonder if you can buy the gear knob on its own...
-

It should fit ok.
Part number is 5K0 711 113 TXPR - £206.14 inc vat
Yes, you can buy it from your friendly local dealer if you have a spare £200 :scared:
-
Really starting to grow on me now. Like Mike says, I would have one if someone gave me one. But if I was an Ed30 owner I certainly wouldn't be tempted to weigh out 15-20k to change..
Would love to see a Red/White/Grey one with the wheels in black. Any photoshoppers with some time one their hands about?
-
It's a real shame VW won't let the dealers run these as Demo's. :-(

Why - seems strange given that they are not a limited edition?
-
...........return of the Golf ball gear knob :surprised:.Didn't they drive the Edition 30??.
-

Because its classed as a niche model, we can't have one as a demo, maybe after its been out for a while they might, customer orders only at the minute I'm afraid. :-(
-
Well my Ed30 was in at VW today for service and while there I spotted the Edition 35 outside (White, DSG), yeah not bad i thought, then mr sales slides over and says "Like it", mmm not bad but think my Ed30 is better looking, cut a long story short i went for a spin in it and it was ok, but no special feeling in it (Or as James May would say "no fizz in my thingy"). Certainly wont be entertaining one of those at 29K, my next car will be the Golf R in around 4 years (when prices are sensible!) :happy2:
I dont mind lugging round the extra 200kg as 4wd will help put stage 2+ power down, rather than spinning front wheels massively on all but the 5 perfect days a year we get in the uk. :driver:, plus it hellps when im back up north where if it aint raining its probably snowing
-
Demo ED35 at Wolsey VW Ipswich , gonna have a go in next couple of weeks after the Ice
-
Also noticed in sales blurb it CLEARLY states its not a limited edition and no numbered plaques and no cap on total amount for sale, seems they dont want the Ed30 Fiasco all over again
