Post by: DSGAndy on November 03, 2011, 03:24:25 pm
WHERE IS THE SEARCH OPTION ON THIS FORUM?!

Can someone pls detail / recommend good tyres for the MKv GTI  asap.

Are Eagle F1's still good?

I heard Continental Sports or something?

Help needed - very urgent.   Thanks.

Wow where has the search function gone :surprised: :surprised:

Here is a thread from a few weeks back discussing winter tyres
http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,35715.0.html (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,35715.0.html)

And here is a review of Nankang Snow SV-2's taken from the forum review section

http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,22302.0.html (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,22302.0.html)

When I eventually get around to it I shall either be getting the above Nankangs or some Vredstein Wintrac's as they also get good reviews :happy2:

Hope that helps
Ben

Ben, there seems to be a shortage on Wintracs. I've been waiting a month for mine and still haven't received mine.

Cheers Stealth :happy2: Where did you order yours from?
I'm actually leaning towards the Nankang's now but then again no-one seems to have any stock and the timescales given are Mid-November

Clickontyres. They're blaming Vredestein for the delay.

Ha ha, I love how great minds think alike. I managed to source two new Nankang SV-2's and two new Vredestein Wintrac's for peanuts from Gumtree. Getting them fitted to my 16's over the weekend so should get them fitted next weekend. I'm also a newbie with the winter tyre/wheels, this is the first year I'll be testing them out. Reports after we've had some snow!!  :happy2:

Dunno if it helps but just for info, ordered some Continental winters early Sept and was told that these were not going into production until w/c 1st Oct. They've only just arrived and are at the tyre dealer.
My local tyre dealer who did me a cracking price on these, tells me they are mega busy with winter tyres currently, mind you that's the North East of England.

These are Conti Winter Contact TS830P, our second set of these as were running both cars on them this year, they are superb, but not budget, but in my book worth every penny, got me out the poo a few times last year.

Guess more people are clued up this year.

It's about time more people took winter tyres more seriously. Should be fined for causing obstructions / accidents if you don't have them during bad weather. Hopefully England won't come to a standstill with a bit of sleat now lol

Yeh ive had the R1Rs on all summer probably done around 5k miles although i dont really keep track. Have 3.5mm tread left on them so will prob lob them on the back come summer for a bit and get some r888s for the front.

Cool, what did you mix them with? (last question, I think lol)

On the back had PS2's no issues with esp getting confused etc but the back end does obviously have less grip when your pushing the car so just bare that in mind if your thinking of doing it.

Anyone after winter hoops should take a look at Kwik Fit. They are running a promotion for 25% off tyres including winter ones.

Personally I swear by Vred Wintracs

Er, yes. But the OP didn't mention how many tyres they wanted......

Assuming he is asking about winter tyres because he had not used them before, so would require 4.

Nobody is silly enough to run just a pair of winter tyres ..... are they?

Nokian WR G2's are very good, however you have left it far too late to get them for a decent price.

Just had a set of the replacements for the Nokians fitted - the A3. Seem very good so far well out of their optimum temp range so hoping for good things!
