Title: Boot won't open

went to shut the boot on MY08 3dr GTi but didnt shut it properly as indicated on the dash.  so i got out and pushed it shut gently and it seemed to shut...dash indicator went off.  got to the end of my journey, went to the boot...and it wont open.  tried locking, unlocking, all sorts and for some reason when i lift the boot release handle nothing happens.  any ideas guys please?

Had this happen in the past and it cured itself after a drive on a roughish road.

i had this on mine when i first got it , you have a little solenoid that clips into the handle. it was replaced and never had an issue again

i will try the rough ride seeing as its free! 

the solenoid...that can be bought on its own without having to get the whole handle?  you must have to get the boot open i guess to be able to replace that part?

any other suggestions?

Yes mate you get it separately . Take the boot trim off and you will see it sticking out of the handle mechanism

You probably already know this, but hey can't hurt mentioning anyway, not sure about the solenoid etc but you can open the boot from the inside by popping of the little plastic insert and flipping the level.

Other thought could be lose connection to the unit?

er...no...i didnt know this.  not sure what you are referring to...could you direct me to the bit you mean please?  thanks

Sure, if you fold down the rear seats and crawl into the boot you will see a small round plastic blanking type plate with the top of the circle cut off (so you can get a finger in to flip it off) it is in the middle of the boot hatch near to the bottom where the latch is has a pic of a car with boot up on it

Will pop out in a mo and take a pic if that would help?
