Title: Front end re-spray
Post by: Gladiator on November 03, 2011, 08:41:01 pm
Hi guys

Thinking about getting my front splitter and bottom section of my bumper re-sprayed due to quit a few stone chips.

I have carefully touched them up as I go but there's too many for my liking now!

Has anyone done the same or had a full frontal re-spray and if so what was the cost?

My Eddie is reflex silver, is this going to be a problem matching the colour and is it best to take it to VW for the best result?

expect to pay something in the region of £1200 to get VW to do it - Audi Approved wanted £500 to spray my bumper!!

bonnet should cost you around £150 from a good independent
wings sould be £100 each
bumper should be £200ish

they will probably need to blend into the doors so will cost slightly more than that

I'd not say that VW bodyshops are any better than any others, go to a local shop that has been recommended is my opinion.  Where are you based as i know someone who is amazing...

Cheers

+1, VW body shops have normal pepole off the streets and can't really on the fancy computers to help them
To me a local Indy who has years of experience of his own tools will be best bang for buck  :drinking:

I finally got round to getting my Tornado Red ED30 done last month. Cost me £300 for the bonnet & both wings at my local indy bodyshop. They did a superb job and I'm very pleased with the results - it was well worth doing as my front end was a right mess!

why is it that prices for paintwork seem to by sky high everywhere else...

i've been quoted the following after my smash...

bonnet £100
wing £60
bumper £60

was told all the paint would be colour matched and blended etc, had my first GTI conversion done from them back in april and the work was flawless...i've got DBP paint...

bonnet's only more because there's a few little 'dinks' in it from storage that need taking out, this is from a Bosch certified spray/bodyshop based in birmingham that carries out mercedes/bmw/audi/vw work....

I've been thinking of getting the front end of my Laser Blue Mk5 done.

Can anyone recommend a decent place near Guildford in Surrey?

300 for bonnet and 2 front wings sounds good. What prices are people getting for front bumper unit?

Thanks,

from my experiance with paintwork if it sounds cheep, it will be sh*t

there are differnet types of paints also, you can get a solid colour, so that it doesnt need laquer or a base coat then laquer, cheep backstreet people will just use a solid colour and the colour will fade and change over time and also looks half arsed

my advice, if ur geting it done then pay the money .

also one other thing make sure the place you take it has colour chips so they can match the colour correctly. lots of independants dont have them and just use the paint code and hope.

hope i helped.

Too true, I have learned from experience and found paying just a little extra gets you the better job first time round.

But also some indy's are overpriced for the job you get aswell, I was quoted £250 from my indy to paint bonnet,  he is very good at what he does, but to me a bit over priced,

VW £150 which i thought was reasonable

Hi Lucky,

Cheers for that contact. Bells is about 2 minutes from my house. I went in for a quote for my small rust area on o/s/r wheelarch. They quoted me 240 to sort rust, and 3 other scratches on the same wing. E-mail estimate was on my PC by time I got home! Brilliant, they also took a look at my bonnet and advised me against doing it as it was in decent condition for a 2006 car, and if I'd got it done it would look suspicious. Great advice.

Thanks again for the contact.

Ian

My local Indy is probably 60 years old and been doing his job since being 15, he comes well recommended in our area (North Norfolk), he painted my OEM spoiler on my MK4 GTI and did a great job, he recently quoted me £150 to do the Bonnett of My MK4 GTI in magic black ( hundreds of stone ships and looks a mess!,he is doing that in next 10 days so i can get it sold!) and he quoted me £150  to spray the front splitter on my Candy Ed30 and that included fixing a scratch on the front bumper and replacing one of the rear bumper clips (which broke and means the rear bumper is out of line by approx 7mm).

Well respected and quality work. :happy2:

Did you get this done by any chance? Any pics would be good. Went to Pentagon Paints over in Welwyn Garden City yesterday. Theyre  VW/Audi/SEAT approved, as there are a couple of VAG garages quite nearby.

totally forgot to look back into this!

the independent i used was Green Autos on Porters Way in Bordesley Green in Birmingham

if anyone does go in mention that Ehsaan recommended and he'll hopefully sort something

thus far i havent had a single issue with that place, the painter is a polish chap they've had for years and theres a younger guy who does the polishing and finishing. i'd recommend the place any day of the week!

For anyone near Peterborough, I've used Barry Baker in Greatford a few times (for family cars). A proper old school panel beater who can get things looking as new for relatively low prices.

Ill probably be getting my bonnet, bumper and wings done in the new year, just to help tidy the car up for the summer. Can anyone give me any recommendations for specialists in the North East? (Teesside area preferably)
