I want an rcd 510 and i have jetta registered Feb 2007 , my car has all optional extras not sure if this makes a difference to what gateway I have , to upgrade it , can it be done by myself ? Is it just a box you plug in or what ? Where can I find etc ?
Sorry for the confusing question

Hi,
I've recently fitted an rcd 510 to my mk5 golf.
The head unit itself will fit straight in.
You may need a fakra adapter to fit the aerial into the back of the rcd510.
Also, to prevent battery drain problems you need to make sure your can gateway is version L or higher.
The gateway will need coding in vcds, if you change it.
Hope this helps.

The gateway is a plastic module that is either in the drivers footwell or up behind the steering column.
Un plug your old one, plug in new one, code up with vcds.
You will probably find one on eBay for around £60. I got mine from ebay.
Thanks

Ben at Shark Performance did mine. Top Bloke!!

My 07 Jetta was fine with 3rd gen headunit, but without a VCDS scan to confirm the version you have you won't know.

I'd rather shag a 3am hippo of a munter than go through trying to fit that canbus again :signLOL:
I can honestly say it was the worst job ever!!! :fighting:

Cant some of them just be updated without having to buy an L or higher version? Came stumbled across this, dont know if this is right? http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/Navigation_System_(RNS510)_Retrofitting

The L gateway upgrade applies when upgrading head unit on gte mk5 golf, could be different on the jetta.
Ollie I'm down your way today, I've pm'd you, let me know if you want to be pop over to see which gateway you currently have.
Thanks

No, VCDS does not support firmware updates / flashing....
The dealers can do it or anyone else who has access to the correct firmware and equipment :)
