Title: Armrest iPod dock - iPhone 4? Earth?
Post by: Betty02 on November 07, 2011, 12:38:06 pm
Fitted my cable today to link my armrest iPod dock and my RNS 310, it had an earth wore which I didn't connected as I couldn't find a decent place to put it, anyway put my car back together plugged in iPhone 4 and nothing.

Question is -

1) Is it just not iPhone 4 compatible?
2) Is it because it wasn't earthed?
3) Where's the best place to earth it? Wire is only short? Has to be on bare metal?

Thanks
Simon

All done, earthed it to the head-unit bolt and worked straight away, shows on my 310 as a 6 CD Changer now more questions (sorry!)

I can choose between CD 1-6 is this my first 6 playlists on my phone? Also it shows as Track 01 no actual name or anything? is this just the iPhone 4 or will all iPods be like this? What's the most compatible I will buy one now ;)

Thanks

I've only got a Touch, but yes, you get six playlists and no track names.  I found out from here, though, that the 'mix' button on your head unit makes it play in random order.  Sometimes the lack of information on the screen is annoying, but generally it works well (I've got MFSW and highline display), and minimises distractions.

All ipods/iphones are displayed the same as 6 playlists.

Prefix your playlists with 1 to 5. 6 is all tracks on the iPod

It won't charge anything that takes USB charing only - will only charge older iPods that support 12V firewire charging

You've reminded me - there's an adapter you can buy (search for ipod adaptor, or trawl through my posts if you can't sleep), which allows charging to newer kit.

+1. I bought an adaptor off egay.

Because my 3GS has a bulky Otterbox Defender case on it, I had to break open the adaptor and stick it in. Charges the phone but very slowly.

I bought this "iPod/iPhone Charge Adapter/Converter 12V to 5V CTIPOD"

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/iPod-iPhone-Charge-Adapter-Converter-12V-5V-CTIPOD-/260530663453?pt=UK_MP3_Player_Accessories_Chargers_Docks&hash=item3ca8d6701d

Ignore the price.
