Well I have no sound, manage to set my alarm off on purpose but just the indicators flash no actual sound, obviously I want this sorting so will this one work?
Part # - 1K0 951 605 C
Link - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Alarm-Siren-1K0-951-605-C-/320765662347?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item4aaf1f948b
As far as I knew there was A/B/C revisions so guessing the C revision is the best? Seams a good price too?
How easy are they to fit? What's there location etc?
Thanks
Simon

not sure mine still works, its been a while since I've tested it... but I know my LED door light stays on again....
anyways... surely you would be best buying new? as something this age will only have a little life left in it??

Yes that one will work. New ones are £90 but they are awkward to get to. I would also recommend new as to do the job twice would be a pain. It's up behind the drivers side wheel arch liner. There is a metal carrier which is rivetted on which has to be drilled out and new rivets fitted afterwards. They are large rivets and they need a large rivet gun. The rivets are 6.4mm and you could do with something like a lazy tong riveter to get them in (unless you are the Hulk).
The alarm itself is plug and play so that part it simple. :happy2:
-
Just bought one from Germany for £12, plus a tenner postage I think, Revision D, will just give it a shot, can't really afford to go spending £90 right now when I need my MK6 GTI Steering Wheel :P
-
Are these the correct rivets?

Right chaps, alarm arrived today. Didn't realise how tiny it was!! 6" max if that!
Now I have my drill ready and rivet gun and rivets.
How easy is removing the inner liner? Wheel off and undo some bolts? Is it easy from there? Don't want to drill out the wrong bloody box lol!
Thanks!
-
Yep, wheel off, remove some torx (T25?) screws and you'll see the box. Drill out the rivets and it's all pretty self explanatory from there :happy2:
You'll need a spanner, maybe 13mm from memory, to bolt the siren to the box.
-
Swapped them over this weekend with the new alarm and still doesn't bloody work!!
Any more ideas/suggestions? I've checked the interior fuse box and all the fuses are fine?
Any help would be appreciated!
-
Can you scan it?
New siren is also gubbed or incompatible?
-
Shouldn't be was tested before I received it? Same part numbers too!
Don't have Vag-Com so can't get a scan unfortunately! Quite annoyed now tbh had a hell of a weekend with the car!
-
Sorry, thought you mentioned you got a D to replace C (should ultimately be the same).
There is an option in VCDS to untick 'Siren installed' - has your siren ever worked? It could be the case a previous owner disabled it rather than replace it. A scan would let you test it and see if it's getting power and so on.
-
Looks like I will need to get it scanned then :( I don't have VCDS so will need to pay to get it done!
Owned the car 11 months today and in them 11 months it's never worked, I never checked it really.
I bought the D version from Germany then a local C version came up so got that too (Germany one still hasn't arrived)
VCDS time then :(
-
could be a problem with the wiring.

could be a problem with the wiring.
How would I check that?
-
Did you get this working as I have the same problem... Replaced the alarm siren to a 1K0 951 605C but it does not work. Opened my old alarm up and yes the batteries leaked acid but why doesnt the new one work??? Is it it faulty too?
-
May need coding with vagcom.
-
When i replaced mine i didnt need to code it.

Maybe a faulty used siren?.
-
Yes maybe it was faulty.. can I confirm that buying a different revision alarm wont cause any incompatibilty issues? The alarm I took out of my car has the code 1K0 951 605A and the one I tried to replace it with has the code 1K0 951 605C but that didnt work .. literally no sound.. Seller agreed for me to return it but I am not sure if I should buy another C or try find the A revision? The A revision is priced higher, nearly double the price and I dont want to take the risk if it wont work :( ...
What about the D revision? Would that work? :S cant see why that would work if the C revision didnt :( These different revisions are really doing my head in :(
Any one ???
-
Or check the fuse for the alarm

The fuse is working.. checked the continuity of the fuse using a multi meter and checked if the link between the prongs is broken which it is not. I believe it is fuse 35, 5a fuse in the fuse box next to driver? If so then it is not faulty. So should I buy another C revision or the D revision or should I keep looking out for a A revision?
:(
Thank you.
-
Yes. Its fuse 35.
I bought mine from here
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/321546915933
Been fitted for 18 months now with no issues

That link doesnt say if it is compatible with my Golf MK5 2004 and if it is compatible with the A revision alarm as my old unit is A revision? :( im stuck as to if i shouls now get the C revision again and HOPE it works or go for the A revision?
-
If in doubt get the A as there are plentyout there.
I used a C on my mk1 tt and it worked fine so maybe the one you've got is faulty too?.
-
A is the older version which i had, i changed it to a C and had no problems

Hmmm okay I made my decision.. I am going to buy another C revision and just cross my fingers it works.. yes maybe it was faulty as the seller agreed to a return straight away.. Just hope it works when I buy it .. I dont want to buy A revision because the problem will happen again and with C revision there is less chance. C revision it is! Thanks guys.

How about the D revision?
-
Why :slap: just get the A and stop you're messing around. The one you just linked is horrible.
-
I still think a 1K0 951 605C will work although must be working.
are you local to London lol
-
I am in Peterborough aha .. I have just paid for another C revision

-
Can I also ask why the D revision is "Horrible" ? Should it not be the upgraded better part? :L I bought the C revision again from a different seller now so I hope it works.. I cant find the A revision for less than £30-£40
-
You should have purchased the ebay one RetroRaz linked as I'd be taking that option if necessary.
The D just looks crusty lol
Peterborough lol
Hopefully that should work :happy2:
-
Yes but it was all the way from chinaaaaaaaaaaaaaa -__- Aint nobody got time for that lol .. Doesnt the D look the same as the C? -_- haha.. You said it was horrible and I cant make sense of how it is horrible ... I would much rather have bought the D revision or C and at least I wouldnt have to dissassemble the car again after a few months -__- .. The A revision has a lot more chance to mess up... What Pop rivet size do I use? 6.8 or 6.4 something??
-
Lmao I'm sure it's not urgent :signLOL: some people haven't had an alarm for years but it ain't nothing to worry about.
You could have bought a D but I didn't like the look of it.
As mentioned I replaced my TT mk1 8N0 951 605 with a 1K0 951 605C and it worked perfectly.
-
Are you saying the condition of it was not the best? and I do need the alarm urgently as my dads cars window has already been smashed and all that to the side.. I have a £250 head unit installed in the car as it is! The least I could do is have the alarm there haha.. Also my wheel arch liner is removed till the new one arrives and I am driving the car without the wheel arch liner on so yes its quit urgent... Oh well, if this C revision does not work as well then I am going to have to get the D revision or the A revision.. Just didn't want the A again as it was the first one VW made and it is useless -_- Trying to find pop rivets on eBay and cant find any thing -_-
-
Sorry to hear of your misfortune with the broken window. guess you do need it asap. Yeah I didn't like the look of the D tbh. I know it's a pain but the least you could have down was put the liner back on :signLOL:
The alarm design was stupid as the batteries leak onto the pcb shorting them out but putting them in a different position does help thay but non the less they'd still fail at some point but repairable if the pcb board is in tack as there's a how too on the tt forum as to replacing the batteries.
-
No problem and I have seen that forum but when I opened the old alarm siren.. Literally 3/4 of the circuit board was covered with battery acid lol .. Not repairable I guess.. Also the battery for it costs around £8 so better to buy a used one for £20.. Wish me luck that this C revision will work now, will arrive on Tuesday.
Thank you very much for your help guys! :)
-
Good luck and do let us know if all went well :happy2:
-
Bro, just pay a tenner extra and buy a brand new one from china. Will take maximum 2 weeks to come. At least u will have peice of mind. U never know what condition the second hand one will be.

Thing is, if the one from china revision C does not work then I am going to have trouble getting money back. What is the life spam on these alarms? How do I know how much longer I have got till the used alarm dies out lol..?
-
The newer revision will last longer than older ones. Reason they probably released newer revisions is because they find a fault or realise a poor design in earlier revisions.

Yes because they realise the poor design and make things a little better but not great :signLOL:
-
Oh boy -_- Dont ask what happened lol ... Bought the one for £19 and sent the seller a little message before he/she dispatched it and I wrote to them saying, please test the item before dispatch as I bought one recently and it was faulty.. he replied back with "How do I test it? I connected it to a car battery and got no sound from it" I was thinking oh wow .. Trying to sell an item that they dont even know works :l .. I asked for a refund and have now decided to buy the one from china brand new like you guys have suggested :) Fingers crossed it does not turn out faulty :(
