Title: Single fave feature?
Post by: stealthwolf on April 09, 2009, 06:24:33 pm
What's your single fave standard feature of the car? Not talking about remaps/engine/DSG/rns/xenons or all the other optional extras that came with the car. I'm talking about the more basic features.

Mine: I love how I can close the windows after I've removed the key from the ignition. I've have had passengers do double-takes.

the reverse wing mirror down function is kind of cool

That's not standard....

My favourite thing is probably the steering wheel - so comfortable to hold and nicely shaped!  It was probably one of the first things that stood out to me when I took an Ed30 for a test drive.

....

This is really difficult - I can't think of anything standard on my car!

The seats and the fact they are heated ! AWESOME.  I work shifts and there is nothing like getting into the car at 0500, it's -9 outside, heaters take ages to warm up and you're rear end is warm in 2 mins from the radiator underneath you !!!

The edition 30 seats are wicked - the best combination - leather outers / bolsters with cloth interlagos centres and red stitching :- mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Regards  :happy2: :happy2: :happy2:

If we're talking GTI only feature it has to be the steering wheel.

----------------------

But generally I'd say its the climate control.  I've started driving another car without it and I'd forgotten just how much fannying about you have to do to get your windows clear then try and keep a steady temperature.

Im sure you have to have your mirror adjuster in the 'L' position then once in reverse the mirror dips toward the kerb. Must admit I've never tried it so will check it out later.

....

I'm surprised that so many favour the steering wheel but in fact, you're all right - It's the main tactile interface and it is a superb wheel, especially with carbon paddle extensions

I don't see why DSG can't be voted for - It's a factory feature.

Lux pack also had folding mirrors and puddle lights (underneath the mirrors)
Reverse activated kerb-view rear adjustment on passenger's door mirror and rear reading lights.

So it's an extra... :happy2:

I like the damped glovebox lid, the damped grab handles.

But I really like the cup holder and the way the bottle opener "ratchets" in its slot to secure the cup.

I like the car!

....Crikey! How often do you use the glovebox? Or do you keep a loaded gun fitted with a silencer in there!? :surprised:

I don't see why DSG can't be voted for - It's a factory feature.

Because it's not standard across all GTIs, is it? I don't have it. It was an optional extra, like that parking mirror thing.

This thread was meant to be more about the 'little things' that are the same in each car - like the glove box, or the autolights.

As I can't put down the Monza IIs ;) I'd have to say that the one other thing apart from the steering wheel is the boot handle :)
Not that I've got my GTI yet (most of other mod-cons you've stated are standard on my S4 ;) ), but I really like the cool idea behind the VW badge being the boot release  8)

Very nice.

The sterringwheel and the smile the little GTI badge on it brings to my face everytime i see it.

A close second is the cloth interior as i open the door of my GTI.
For some reason when i open the door of the leather fitted  one from work it does not bring the same emotion and i seem to smell crayons!!
