Folks
I'm going to need a timing belt change and wondered is it silly to buy the kit from a motor spares or must i get the VW one?
I expect the non dealer price will be less...
cheers

I would get a vw one mate . Main dealers do a deal with cam belt and water pump all done for £300 got to be good value cheaper than a new engine for using sub standard parts .

as obove. good advice

I paid £400 thought it was £300 for some reason, checked invoice oh well still cheaper than an engine if cheapo parts are used

Yup VW charge £399 on FPS for Belt and Pump, then its an extra £249 for Main service on top of that. Got a quote last week for my 4 year service due in 6 months time.
My car will be going to VW for its main service (To keep up the FVWSH) but for belt and pump going to local VW specialist who has been doing my VW's for the last 17 years (He drives VW's and his wifes school run trolley is an Audi RS6!), he quoted me £300 for belt and pump service :happy2:

Extra £100 for the pump iirc...?

Asked about a cambelt change and 4 year service on the new family TDI Jetta today at Breeze VW in Poole, Dorset.
Normally costs £520.
But, they've got a special offer on at the moment and they will do it for £450!!!
Then I asked about rear parking sensors (I can't get used to the boot sticking out!)
£420 fitted, with extra on top for paint!!
Where do they pluck their prices from......hilarious.
I'll be going to our tried and trusted local VW specialist garage.....again.
I just thought I'd give vw a chance.

Hi p4ulo
I got breeze to do my cambelt on the 1st of November, cambelt and pump for £399.
Breeze do not do the vw FPS but will price match any written quote using genuine vw parts within a 5 mile redius.
I went to kartechnic which is on the Nuffield industrial estate for the quote of £399 then took it to breeze to show Jaime the service manager, he wasn't to happy but I was smiling. It also means you get the vw stamp.
Hope this helps

I've used SKF parts on my GTI: http://seekpart24.com/skf/timing-belt-kit-vkma01222?c=100453&at=14366.
As well as:

http://seekpart24.com/bosch/v-ribbed-belts-1987948452?c=100431
All in all (including new diverter valve and cam follower, oil, various bits and pieces), I paid about ~500 eur.

I would highly recommend Dave Hawthorn at SERE motors on Boucher rd in Belfast for the cambelt kit.
It's where I got mine from and then found a trusted local independent VAG garage like I did.
I paid around £130 - 140 for the cambelt kit and £140 labour with exchange w/pump!
-
Cheers Mike - didnt know you were in NI.
Did SERE fit you belt & pump or just sell you the kit?

Would second Dave from SERE,top guy,PM me if you want the number of the guy i got to fit mine,in fact I wouldn't use anyone else.

Yeah VW said to me £399 for cam belt and water pump but I went to my mates garage in the end. If i remember correctly parts came to about £100 from GSF. I paid £175 all in. Will be going to VW for normal service to keep vw service history but cant justify extra £225 just for a stamp.

I'm in Germany, that's testament to Daves service! I order nearly all my parts from Dave.
I had the kit fitted at VagCo Vw master tech, local to me in Doncaster.
