Title: beginner sorry - rcd300 to 510 in 2005?
Post by: jimk04 on November 09, 2011, 07:41:49 pm
I am totally new to this can bus thing - I dont even know what it is other than a PITA!

I am thinking of putting an RDC510 into my 2005 car with std rcd300? I think I am right in that I have a gen2 unit and the 510 is gen3 so I need a new canbus gateway version L or something?

What should I pay for the gateway - is it all plug and play or do I need VCDS?

Thanks

Jim

PS - I did a search but as usual I can never find anything on a forum search!

Hi

If you put the RCD510 in your 2005 car you will need a newer gateway and an adaptor for the antenna

The Gateway will need coding to your car

I have some in the for sale section

If you have a bee sting antenna on the roof that is the one you want

if you don't have the bee sting this is a better option
