As per the title iOS 5.0.1 is now out. However it's not over the air on this one. Appears it is. :happy2:

Hmmm cat and mouse begins, reckon 5.0.1 fixes JB exploit that have apparently been found.  Might hold off for now, dont seem to have any major battery issues.

I will bet 5.0.1 fixes exploits in 5.0 that makes JB possible  :fighting:

But they said that about 4.0 though   :signLOL:

I'm happy with my 4.3.3 for now, no real problem with battery drain compared with the 3GS......

My battery was amazing before 5.0.1. Way better than my last iPhone 4. But this update has absolutely killed it.

I've chosen to avoid it for now

Some are having problems. However I took mine off charge at 0630 this morning and have been using the net quite a bit plus I'm watching F1 over 3G and still have 64% left.

Mine has crashed and instantly gone to home screen probably 10 times in 3-4 weeks half
Way through doing something like setting a reminder or creating a contact  :fighting: :fighting:

There is a tethered jailbreak out for 5.0.1 but everyone is saying stay on 5.0 if you want an untethered jailbreak

Also it doesn't look like this update fixes the battery problems

I will bet 5.0.1 fixes exploits in 5.0 that makes JB possible  :fighting:

The update closes the door on one vulnerability, damn Apple are getting fast at closing the vulnerabilities these days

Someone please educate me: If JB means jailbreak, what does it mean and why do people do it?

I think it's largely done so you can use a whole load of 3rd party apps that are not on the iTunes store and are free.

Did this this morning to my 3GS, and the battery life has noticeably improved. Not placebo in any way, i've been using 3G and making phone calls a lot today and the battery is a good 10% higher than it usually is.

It also allows you to make tweaks and modifications that add functions and features to the os, Robin.
Very useful touches that should've been standard (just like the bits we think 'should be standard' on our cars lol)

:)

So now that I've finished modifying my car I'm supposed to modify my iPad?

Title: Apple Customers Claim iOS Update Didn't Fix Glitch
Post by: bacillus on November 13, 2011, 10:25:34 am
Apple customers say devices with the new iOS 5 operating system are still suffering from weak battery life, even after the company issued a software update meant to fix the malfunction.

Users has posted on Apple's message boards complains that the software update delivered yesterday hasn't corrected the flaw. Apple said that it's looking into the matter.

"The recent iOS software update addressed many of the battery issues that some customers experienced on their iOS5 devices," Apple spokeswoman Trudy Muller said. "We continue to investigate a few remaining issues."

Among many complains, iPhone 4S users say that that battery life has gotten worse since the software update, while others complained that the battery loses 10 percent of its power each hour.

Furthermore, users are also reporting a new problems that were apparently introduced by the 5.0.1 update. Some users aren't getting a proper contact name displayed when receiving a call, despite the name and number appearing in a user's contact list. Users are also complaining of microphone problems, WiFi signal issues, and difficulty connecting to cell networks.

Apple also announced a replacment program for the first generation iPod nanos due to faulty batteries. Apple has determined that, in "very rare" cases, the battery in the iPod nano (1st generation) may overheat and pose a safety risk. Affected iPod nanos were sold between September 2005 and December 2006, the company said.

Apple has traced the issue to a single battery supplier that produced batteries with a manufacturing defect.

The company recommends users stop using their iPod nano (1st gen) and order a replacement unit via the web.

To be honest I didn't think my battery life was too bad (compared to my old phone), but since 5.0.1 I'm sure it's become worse. Hard to say for definate as depends on usage. I'm sure it has though.
