Title: ***30-130mph Day***
Post by: Shins on November 13, 2011, 04:06:44 pm
Thanks again to RAF Marham's invitation, I’m very pleased to confirm the next 30-130 event will be held on Sunday 18th March 2012.

If you haven't heard of “30-130” before, it's probably the best opportunity for you to understand the REAL performance of your car. Taken from a rolling start below 30mph you have approx 1.5miles of Marham's straight ultra smooth tarmac to pass 130mph - and carry on for a top speed run if you wish.

There's no running order so you can run when you want (subject to the queue which we get through as quickly as possible!) The average number of timed runs is approx 5 or 6, but we've seen some drivers do 15+! You’re welcome to do a run without a VBox (or use your own if you have one) to bypass the queue and go straight out, but only data from the MLR's calibrated VBoxes being used on the day will be used in the results.

The current 30-130 record is held by RossW in his Evo6 in a time of 5.84s

Please read ALL the following info carefully, paying particular attention to the Security Clearance requirements further below

Main Event Details:
Full 1.5mile runway
VBox data recorded for all cars
Cars can be corner weighted
Limited to a maximum of 60 cars
Starts at 9am, finishes at 4pm
£99 per car & driver
Additional drivers £59
Passengers £10
Main drivers must have full UK driving licence
ALL cars must have a fire extinguisher fitted within reach of the driver
ALL drivers and passengers must bring photographic ID on the day to be allowed into the venue (no photo ID = no entry)
ALL spectators must come in the same car as the driver booked for the event

Event Timetable:
07:30 - Gates open. (DO NOT stop at the Guard room as before - please go straight through to the first checkpoint. You MUST show your Photo ID on the day)
07:45 - Driver and Passenger Registration / Car number and wristband collection
08:30 - Drivers briefing (mandatory)
09:00 – Sighting lap
09:30 – Event start
12:30 – Lunchbreak
13:00 – Event restart
16:00 – Event close

30-130:
We’ll use the full length of the 1.5 mile / 60m wide runway of super smooth tarmac
All cars will be fitted with a Racelogic V-Box in order as they appear in front of the MLR control point, which will record your car's performance
Cars will run one at a time and must start their run within the designated coned area for that run to count
Having completed a “30-130 run” all drivers will be able to go on to complete a top speed run if they want. This is not compulsory but you may not have a better, safer and legal way to find out your car’s top speed
The next car will be released when car #1 has passed the halfway mark on the runway
You must brake at the braking markers to ensure you don’t overrun the end of the runway and risk damaging the airfield infrastructure (as happened last year!)
Once the car has returned to the Paddock and the VBox has been removed, your 30-130 time and Top Speed result (if applicable) will be displayed at the MLR unit as soon as Dave has downloaded the data from your runs

***VERY IMPORTANT: SECURITY CLEARANCE!***

ALL DRIVERS, SPECTATORS & RESERVES MUST HAVE SECURITY CLEARANCE BEFORE BEING ALLOWED ON SITE

I MUST HAVE EVERYONE’S DETAILS BY 29th FEBRUARY 2012 to give the RAF Police enough time to get your security clearance before the day.
IF YOU MISS THIS DEADLINE YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO ATTEND AS YOU WILL NOT GET SECURITY CLEARANCE

I need to record ALL names & details regardless of whether you have been security cleared for previous events, or have clearance to work on this station, are serving RAF personnel etc, so please send me your info asap

Please PM or email me with ALL the following details ASAP for security vetting:
Full Name
Address
Nationality
Place of Birth
Date of Birth
Passport number
Car make, model and registration being driven into RAF Marham; ie: the tow car if the vehicle you’re using at the event is being towed

ADDITIONAL INFO:

Corner Weighting:
We will have our corner weights at the event as usual, so if you want to corner weigh your car you can do so anytime during the day. This will be managed the service and direct you onto the ramps and the scales. Readings will be recorded and can be taken with and without the driver

Marshals & Emergency Cover:
The event will be fully marshalled and include Medical and Fire Cover

Helmets:
Helmets must be worn by all occupants- drivers and front seat passengers

Fire Extinguishers:
ALL cars must have a fire extinguisher fitted - preferably in an easy to reach place, eg: in front of the passenger seat. This will be checked on the day and any cars without extinguishers will not be allowed to run

Noise Limit:
Noise from motorsport has now become an issue for RAF Marham. Although it’s understood that running a single car at 30-130 is not the same as running numerous cars together at a trackday, noise monitoring will take place on the day if required but they will be as lenient as possible. We are not allowed unsilenced exhaust systems. The static noise limit is 105dBA (measured at ½ metre, 45 deg, ¾ revs)

Rear Spoilers:
For reasons of safety, cars must retain their rear spoilers and blade, unless fitted with a carbon bootlid or similar which does not allow for a rear spoiler

Vortex Generators and Trim:
Debris of ANY type on the runway is the single biggest concern at RAF Marham. Aftermarket VGs and other trim have a tendency to come off when travelling at over 130mph, so all VGs will need to be taped front and back to ensure they stay on the car. If it’s not done when you come to collect your VBox we will do it for you!

Towing Eyes:
It is your responsibility to have a towing eye or strap fitted and/or accessible on the day in case you need to be recovered. The RAF recovery crew are experienced and will treat your car like their own, but they have to be able to return your car to the paddock, so please make their life as easy as possible whilst also removing the risk of damage to your car

Passengers:
Only front seat passengers are allowed and must be 16 years old or over. There is a small charge of £10 for passengers, but they must complete an indemnity form and wear a wristband

Refreshments:
Food & drink (burgers, bacon rolls, coffee etc) will be managed by the RAF who'll be based in the ’30-130 paddock’

Litter:
It is ABSOLUTELY IMPERATIVE that no litter or cigarette ends are dropped anywhere other than a bin. Failure to observe this very simple rule seriously jeopardises us being invited back, so please use the bins provided (or your pockets!)

Spectators:
All spectators must come with drivers already booked in as we are only allowed a maximum of 60 cars onsite during the day. You need to be security cleared to be allowed on site, so please send me your details (see above) for Security clearance - and bring PHOTO ID on the day. No Photo ID = No Entry

Volunteers:

We need a handful of people to help with putting the V-Boxes in the cars and changing over memory cards throughout the day, so please contact me or Mechell if you’re interested in helping

Video Cameras:
All video cameras must be securely mounted internally via suction mount or bolted to a rollcage. No hand held cameras are allowed. All footage must be for personal use only – eg: not uploaded to YouTube, forums etc

Photography:
Due to the extremely sensitive nature of the venue, cameras are only permitted for personal use, eg: photos cannot be posted on forum or websites. No professional or commercial photography is allowed

Rides:
30-130 wouldn’t happen without the help of the RAF volunteers who marshal and support the event– all of whom are petrolheads and would sell their sister (or brother) for the chance to own the cars attending the day. If you’re happy to give them a ride we will give you a sticker for your windscreen so the guys know they can jump in with you sometime during the day. Thanks in advance from me- it's good to be able to give something back

HOW TO BOOK:

Bookings:
Places can be booked by calling us direct on 08451 25 26 23
Price per car/driver: £99 (MLR members only)
Additional drivers in the same car: £59 (booked via phone 08451 25 26 23)
Passengers: £10 Pay on the day

Reserves:
If places sell out a reserve list will be started. All reserves should still PM me their details for security vetting before 29 Feb 2012 in case you are able to get a place

Cancellations:
Please tell me if you cannot attend for any reason. Please DO NOT post on the Forum offering your place to someone else as we need to manage the entry list for security purposes, and offer your place to the first person on the reserve list. Please be aware of the MLR's Cancellation Policy

Last but not least:
A huge thankyou to Paul, George and the RAF Marham Station Commander and staff who continue to make this unique event possible.

Get yourself there Mike, it's a cracking day and you see some serious bits of kit too..   Plus we need some VAG representation seeing as I won't be in the Ed30 anymore and have to relinquish my FWD crown..  :sad1:

And get humiliated even after ploughing £££££ into my ride   :ashamed:

Have to make sure enough money is left after moving to England next month. will be a mint day if I can make it like.

You don't go there with any intention of beating 1000bhp Evo's mate..  What you do do is put yourself up against the other Hot Hatch/FWD brigade as a comparison and let the big boys fight each other..
I can assure you you won't get humiliated. The VAGs have taken top honours for Hot Hatch/FWD cars on every year we've attended..  As each year goes by though, more and more people attend and there should be some even nicer bits of kit for the next one..

Title: Re: ***30-130mph Day***

'TOP SPEED' is a little misleading. It's more a case of what is the maximum speed you can reach on the 1.6 mile runway before you have to drop the anchors, rather than what the car will do totally maxed out..
Last year I only did 1 top speed run in my Stage 2+ ED30, due to the fact it only had OEM cooler and I was more interested in the 30-130mph time. IIRC my official GPS speed was about 157mph, with the speedo reading over 170mph. If I had done a few more runs and braked later, I dare say I could of got a little closer to 160mph, but not much more unless I wanted to end up in the back garden of a Marham resident..   :driver:

Good fun trying though..

I don't think its a may, but more of a will struggle, they're not geared for it.  And lightweight doesn't count for much over 100mph, its where big power takes over.

So am I right in thinking that we are not going to have any representation from a Mk5 this year then?  :sad1: We need to retain the FWD crown guys, come on

Any Stage 2+ DSG ED30 owners going to step forward for the team..  :jumping:

I'm trying to talk Steve Jr at Statllers to go. He has stage 2+ edition 30 DSG, with a Wavetrac diff, hybrid turbo and water/meth and running a tasty REVO race map. 440bhp and 440lbft. He won the mk5 class at inters this year with a 12.7 run and that was 2 up before the race map and water/meth. If he can't come then I may be able to bring his car anyway

The car should have more mods by March, but I doubt that a lighter car (even if I'm at 300bhp by then) will make up for pure grunt from a 30mph roll.

Christ if your turning up with nearly 300hp potentially, and that's taking a penknife,

ill be around 70hp shy of that so I guess ill be turning with nail clippers to this gun fight lol

Hello! Do I know you? I suspect youve changed your name?

Cars still going - just about, always something wrong with it though. Currently got an ECU checksum error causing the EPC ligh to stay on.. not sure of the solution yet.

It was fairly down on power at a recent RR day, so would like it back again for this 30-130 day :D

Yes mate, i'll be in the 1er.. Still only got the software and the rest is factory stock, so about 350-60bhp.

Will be interesting to see how she fairs to the Ed30, but doubt it will be as quick tbh. I would think it will be close though and the BM will certainly take the top speed.

Cant wait for this years one :)

Got a soft spot for the Mk5 i must admit so hopefully there will be some nice ones coming along :) Hopefully soon a list of the runner and riders will appear :) Im giong to run my A8 for a laugh as well to see what the old v8 diesel is like :D might even get that mapped too ;)

Watch out for an ordinary looking Scooby from Scotland.

Andy Forrest is bolting a couple of rather large turbos onto a flat 6 motor. It'll have circa 1000bhp, NOS to boot and aiming for 200mph. Hope the drivetrain holds up tho!

the thing is, if you want to do a top speed run, just swing on to the runway at whatever speed you can manage. You can probably hit the runway at 80 or so anyway :)

Ah, I didn't know that, I thought you had to start at 30mph on the runway and go on past the 130mph to then do your top speed. I didn't know you could just tear onto the tarmac with the pedal down and go for the top speed.

In that case I may get to 145mph  :signLOL:

But I'm hoping for 150mph+ as I will probably have about 260bhp to push my 1.4 down the strip if I haven't got an upgrade turbo on by then!
Title: Re: ***30-130mph Day***
Post by: Listerofsmeg on December 27, 2011, 10:57:15 pm
nope, you can just tell them youre gonna do a top speed run and then you dont even have to go through the cones (didnt what i was there in 09 anyway). Then just let her rip :)

The stupid thing is though that even at 150 it looks like youre doing about half that because the runways so bloody wide!!

150 would be a great effort from the 1.4 polo though!

Checked on way home.

5th - 1.4krpm = 27mph
6th - 1.4krpm = 35mph
7th - 1.4krpm = 40mph

That means 7th would get me 200mph at 7krpm!?!

Don't mean to burst your bubble John, but 150+ would be near impossible from the Polo IMO. That is of course unless Hurricane Rita makes a re-appearance of the coast of Norfolk  :signLOL:
Stage 2+ TFSI's only just tipped 155+ last year (showing 170+ on the speedo) as there's just not enough room (1.6 miles) to hit the cars 'top end'. Saying that, I never entered the runway with a run up when I did my top speed run, but IMO that won't make a huge difference anyway (maybe 2mph extra). It just doesn't work out like that..
Title: Re: ***30-130mph Day***
Post by: Listerofsmeg on December 28, 2011, 02:12:51 pm
youre most likely right with that, although no harm in trying :)

what sort of speed were you hitting the runway at last year on your top speed runs?

is was your golf that hit 16.5 wasnt it? i think that record will be going this time round :) I think we should pose the suggestion to the MLR to have a little FWD trophy :) always good to spice things up a bit eh?

Yes mate it was mine that got the 16.5 and 158mph IIRC. I only did the one top speed run (on my first run) so entered the runway @ about 20mph. TBH I wasn't that arsed about the top speed runs, as it just wasn't suited for that anyway. Plus my car (although Stage 2+) still had the wanky OEM FMIC, so didn't like high speed runs.
The FWD record will defo go this year after seeing what's attending (4/5 500+bhp fwd cars for a start). But with a stock/full weight Ed30 with just TBE, Intake, HPFP and software, it's no great shame IMO

Well I looked at last years runs and there was a Renaultsport R26 with stock power (230bhp) that did the run in 35.9 so that is my target to beat for starters.

It was a 16.63 run for you Ben and I'll get nowhere near that!

Ha ha ha thats fine, thats what they're for!

Yes my very best is 11.7 @ 128mph which was run on my milder map.
Last visit before the transmission let go we saw a 12.0 @ 134mph

I'd like to think a high9-low11 would be on the cards  :driver:

It was the stronger box  :signLOL: severe wheel tramp caused the casing to crack which in turn mashed the s/cut gears.

New box is going in Jan and a few mods to halt the tramp!

I run on Yoko AO48Rs

Luca, with a good drive you should piss 9's with a 134mph terminal.. It does get harder to take time off the lower you get, but I expect good things from you my friend  :happy2: Just want to hope that Specky doesn't roll up in the Tigra  :scared:
As a reference, my best 1/4 was a 12.7 @ 114mph on road tyres (PS2's)..

Haha, I made Specky swear at me when I was up at RS Tuning.
He was sorting his wiring loom out for the car and I had the ED30 on nitrous on the dyno.

If I remember right his exact words were.

I will be making a return. Same power level, but 100kg lighter.

My mate in his 600BHP gtr will be along aswell as a 470bhp mk2 frs!

Possibly two 996 turbos, 700hp brabus and 750hp evo.

For the benefit of me....what does stage 2+ actually mean? I never work in the "stages" concept as there are so many variables, seems impossible to categorise them.

Map, exhaust, HPFP at minium. Ideally it would also have a uprated intercooler and intake.

Mine has all those plus an ITG CAI, the intercooler was being fitted but they discovered that Forge's twintercooler doesn't fit the new facelift S3  :sad1:
So I'll be investing in a THS intercooler early next yeaar.

The THS is nice, but so is the forge. The forge might ultimately give slighty better performance though but both are proven solutions.

Most run in their everyday spec so that they know how quick it is in real terms.

The s2000 is owned by a guy who had a 700hp r34 gtr which saw its death at trax in 2009. The s2000 should be done in January as long as there are no hiccups. The Saturday is only for gtroc and mlr paid up members. Plus he wants to be with thee rest of his buddies.

Hybrid TTRS and jonnys BT TTRS should be in attendance also!

There will be plenty of fwd cars attending, Seats, Golfs, astra/vectra VXR's, Focus RS MK1 & 2's and others!

As for weather, hit and miss really, it could be glorious sunshine, rain, wind, I've been 3 times and encountered all 3!

Rod, is this just another excuse to try and avoid the humiliation of not beating a motability Golf's time again?  :booty: :signLOL:

Listerofsmeg - What you rocking up in mate? FWD class will be seriously fierce this year and i'm glad I retired the Golf as a champ   as it would be knife to a gun fight time this year (many 500bhp+ stripped out monsters turning up).  :scared:

If it does rain, it's not quite as bad as you might think. The runway as Marham is quite a spectacular piece of civil engineering. Due to it's importance and Tornado Jet Fighters taking off and landing constantly (not on this day you'll be pleased to know  :scared: ) it has to be able to drain water off and out of sight near enough instantly.
If it does rain, there will be no puddles or standing water at all and it's amazingly quick at drying. So long as it doesn't rain all day, you should be fine (unless you are running a 1000bhp through the front wheels and on slicks ).

Absolutely not mate.. I use to have a CTR and know of the Jap crowd's potential for sure. Just a shame none of them never seen to show up (been invited in the past) :sad1:
What is she packing mate, any links to build thread, spec, 1/4 mile times etc?

what power was your ed30 running for your quickest run last year? 400+?

I have a huge build thread over on civiclife.net but essentially its an old B18 engine with a hooooj turbo attached to it. Hoping to get a proper map on it soon as i want to give it a shakedown at the pod in feb. I did run it last year but it was never really "right", smaller turbo and a few other bits then too. Should be much improved this year. Its even got carpets and everything ;)

Eddie was only running 355bhp mate, so nowt special.
So what sort of power figures will the Delsol producing on the day and what you hoping for @ Pod realistically?
Title: Re: ***30-130mph Day***
Post by: Listerofsmeg on January 24, 2012, 10:01:54 pm
Ive got figures in mind but its impossible to back that up with printouts. At the moment we are having trouble controlling boost (a problem carried over from last year too). I am hoping that when i go back up tomorrow that will be sorted though (engine timing was massively retarded, which is now fixed). Assuming thats done then we can wind it on significantly. I want it to run solidly at wastegate pressure before turning it up.

Previous best at the pod on the old setup and half a tune was 11.4, some of the guys in the states that have the same (or very similar) spec are running high 8s though..... :scared:

Sadly, it think my talent would have run out waaaaay before that. Its an absolute missile though.

Sounds like you will be running with the big boys on the 18th then mate  :surprised:. It's the complete other end of the scale to my old Golf. In fact my Ed30 was more related to your A8 by the sounds of things.
I use to do 30k a year in it for work (Sales Manager) and then take it to the odd event like this and Pod without changing a thing (maybe the odd bottle of octane booster here and there for what difference that made if any). It was my daily that would take me round the UK Monday to Friday kicking out 36+mpg, but still do a 12.7 @ 114mph at Pod at the weekends with minimal mods (intake, Exhaust, map and fuel pump) and without doing a thing to it.. That's why I miss it so much from time to time, ticked all the boxes for me. The BM does the same job, just not such a sleeper.

Would love a proper track weapon/project at some point though. It's just knowing where to stop..  :signLOL:

Just been out in Steve Jr's 997 turbo and it is "slightly" fast :driver:

Currently he has bigger coolers, zorst and a Revo map. By the day he will have twin hybrid turbo's, water/meth (with map to suit) and larger throttlebody. Already gets from 0-100mph in what seems like no time at all!
Can't wait to see what time he lays down. :jumping:

How it looks is how it feels too!

0-130mph in 10.5 with pdk. Steve's is manual, so may be a second slow than that now, but with the hybrids I'd expect it to be an easy 10 second car.

Ok, this day is now provisionally sold out!

I think Darin/Mechell are waiting on 3 people to pay and they have until the end of the week before their places get given to someone else!

Not entirely sure to be honest John. It's a 996 manual (not 997) and I believe it's between 550-600bhp, so don't think it'll be as quick as Steve's by the sounds of it.

Is this just a glorified willy waving competition,  :scared: or do peeps also turn up genuinely for the criac?  :drinking:

To me, it looks just like Santa Pod, but without the chavs - someone please tell me I am wrong - because I'm not too far away from Marham, and wouldn't mind turning up just to spectate and meet up with fellow forumites again . . .  :sad1:

its essentially just a chance for people who have nicely/heavily modified cars to really stretch their legs in a fixed test that is common to all. Its a great day, lots of banter if you want it, or you can just get on with it...its up to you.

for me personally it is the one event of the year that i will be hopefully able to max my car out.

If you wanted to come along as a spectator you still have to give your security details over to the MLR and jump in wth someone thats signed up i believe.

30-130mph day is a day that allows lovers of their expensive/standard/modifed cars see what their cars can do in as close to  real world situation as possible and IMO thee only event that gives a real world feeling (bar top speed) as to how your car compares to others (be that hot hatches or supercars)!

Properly organised, great/like minded people enjoying the same thing...................POWER!!!!!!!! without the dreaded blue lights  :happy2:

about 230mph @ 9000rpm, the idea was to try and crack 200. Either way a huge task, so whatever will be will be....

I havent had any time to do any aero work so there is a lot of further work i could do, but not for this time round.

i think one of the Focus' has ~540hp...no idea what the spec is to get it to that though but id guess on, just a build motor and a GT35, with supporting mods.
Title: Re: ***30-130mph Day***
Post by: Hurdy on March 07, 2012, 01:25:56 pm
Err.....

Polo GTI

ITG intake
Decat Milltek TBE - Decat will only be done if the turbo turns up and goes on before the day.
Water methanol injection
Loba LO270 hybrid turbo - still hasn't turned up in the UK!
Pace intercooler and radiator - Still at manufacturing stage
Revo/APR map - APR most likely If I get chance to go down to Milton Keynes to put it on.

No Idea of the output, but probably 250-280bhp with the mods done - otherwise 230bhp. Weighs under 1200kg.

So, I guess I'm another one with his car still not complete! :scared:

Secret weapon - driver has elephant balls of adamantium! :driver:

Guestimate is 25-30 seconds for the 30-130 dash :ashamed: Any better than 25 seconds an I will be a really happy bunny :jumpmove:

I hope it all arrives, but surely you wont have enough time to get that lot all fitted any tuned will you??

Still cant wait for this all to go off, if the weather holds itll be a great day :) looking forward to taking apart some expensive metal :D

Im going to set myself some tough targets on 7.xx for the 30-130 and 190mph top end (should target 200 but im getting nervous now...)

It should all be done. The turbo has arrived so will go on with the decat tomorrow. The i/c and rad will be delivered next Monday and go on the car on Wednesday. If I can't get down to Milton Keynes I can use my local APR dealer 15 miles away. Fun times!  :scared:

7.XX would a superb time and I can only dream of 190mph at the moment.

The strip is 1.5miles isn't it? Is all that useable or is the last 1/4 mile for braking?
Title: Re: ***30-130mph Day***
Post by: Listerofsmeg on March 07, 2012, 05:00:13 pm
Its certainly gonna be a blast trying....just hope mines all present and correct to give it a really good go. Just a shame we couldnt max the turbo out but thats a job for later on :)

The runway itself is a little longer than 1.5miles, there are predefined braking advisory boards (should all be detailed in the email pack youll have got?)

Im not far from MK myself.

Is any one staying close to Marham the night before?

That's a very good point John and no doubt there will be a few late attendees due to this..  :sad1:

As for the runners, there is a lot of speculation going about that there will be a couple of 4 second cars this year..  :surprised: :rolleye:

The Saturday is going to be very interesting too.. Apparently there is a MP4-12C running..

Also don't forget that the clocks go forward one hour on Saturday night, so if you don't change your clocks you'll be an hour late arriving! :happy2:

They change on the 25th not the 18th  :happy2:

Well my Turbo is on and running, the intercooler and radiator turned up today, so that will go on the car on Wednesday and then off to APR (hopefully) on Friday for some mapping.

Already knocked the 30-100mph down, so let's hope it does the same for the 100-130mph dash too.  :happy2:

basically you can do whatever you like, standing mile, 1/4s anything, as they can just work it out from the Vbox data.

Luca, what stud pattern are your hubs? 4x100?

:driver: yup.....i hadnt imagined he would actually post it up but im very glad he did. Its got a great response so far. The only negative is now that i am genuinely scared!!! when i took it to them it was on wastegate pressure and not running great dynoed then at 360-365. So to get it back with 90% more power is certainly going to be interesting....

Romain wanted to carry on giving it more boost but Ben had to hold him back! I think that run was at 2.4bar. Ill have the graphs here shortly as the cars on its way back to me for me to do the last bits to. I think much more boost and the head would have started to lift. Turbos good for it but i think weve reached the limit of what a stock port head can do. Im not sure i can be bothered to change that though. Really want to see what it can do as is.

I fear for my driveshafts.

Been pissing it down most of the day and very wet guys. Starting to dry out now, so times should get better.
Had a a dry-ish patch first off then the heavens opened.

Focus Rs is the same car with 2 drivers.

Excellent time Hurdy, 4.5s faster than the MkII Focus RS that was there  :happy2:.

Were there any 2.0T (K03 or K04) there for you to compare to?

Only JKM's 2.0TSI (K04 conversion) Octavia which was impressive (350bhp+ on their rollers). Also a Stage 2+ TTRS that went well..
Absolutely cracking day (especially towards the end). Just a shame the weather wrecked most of the day..

About 154 IIRC (got the results at home, but on phone ATM). If the weather had of dried out quicker there would of been no doubt that I would of been on the right side of 160. Just ran out of time and only got one run in the dry and braked way to early. Went straight in the queue for another run but they called it a day  :sad1:

Rich was also there in his TT RS. Even though Audi updated his car last time it was in and mucked up the map he still did over 170mph.

Several Japanese cars left bodily parts over the airstrip during the day including a door, window and wing mirror!

Bens car ran well as did JKMs and Dans Seat.

Grip was most definitely at a premium. So much so that I had to start in third gear from under 30mph as second gear ended up as a scrabbling mess. Dry would have definitely given everyone better times and speeds.

Yep, it was a real shame that Ross got banned although I can see why, I was behind him on the way down and he let rip at the worst part of the outroad.....just in front of the ancillary crew by the Fire engine area. That was one area that the sergeant specifically mentioned to be careful around in the morning brief!

I was surprised about the airstrip too, I thought it would be as flat as a pancake, but it turned out that the start area and first third was uphill, with the centre section being flat and then the last third being uphill again. Add the start incline with the wet conditions and you do tend to struggle - even Stve Jr in his 997 Porrsche had to set off in third to avoid breaking traction with all 4  ( normal road tyres ) wheels and that is basically 900rpm!

He has also promised to build something special next year to compete with the big boys and give some kudos back to the VAG guys.

Great day sadly ruined by the weather!! I want to also extend my congrats to Luca for the 184, major kudos!!! I did manage just under 181 but the story of my day was just extreme lack of traction. I had no grip until 5th gear so didn't give me enough room to pull through it. Still had another 1500rpm to go and was climbing at 3-4mph a second but I had to brake very early as they were shocking!!!

Was just about to have a crack at the 30-130 properly with the slicks but I lifted the Bonnet to find a driveshaft grease all over the bulkhead and a severely twisted shaft! Decided it wouldn't have taken another one and called it a day.

The video I took showed just how hard it was to put the power down, even at 45% throttle in 4th it broke traction at 120!!

Nuts.

Still enjoyed it as always! If I still have the car in a year I'll have another crack :)

Great effort by everyone!

Mate, the mere fact you did 181mph in that thing with the brake set up you had gets a major  :congrats: from me.. I had 6 pot Brembo anchors on mine and braked well before the gates of death @ 160 due to my little kahunas. For you to hit 180+ with those milk bottle tops was pure  :rolleye:

Found this on t'other forum

Quote from: jonnyc;145604
Hey..

So, today I was supposed to be at the MLR 30-130 event at Marham.. Unfortunately my TT wasn't going to be ready in time but I was able to convince APR to let me borrow the now infamous APR Stage 2+ Golf R for the day as a stand in which would let me have some fun on the day..

So up at the crack of dawn and up to Marham to be told that my passenger details had been lost and so he wasn't on the list, meaning that there was absolutely no way he would be allowed in, so that was that.. Left the venue after a chat with the organisers and decided to give Bruntingthorpe a call to see if I could drive across there and do my own day!!! haha..

Which got me to here.. :)

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fo304%2Fjonnnny28%2FIMG_1287.jpg&hash=bf30812f6d8f772d5c564136792e551ba6751918)

So basically thought that I may as well make the most of having the car and luckily we had a V-Box in the car too so was able to do my own testing under controlled conditions! All good..

Quick run down of the spec..

Golf R 2.0T FSI - DSG
APR Stage 2+ Software
APR HPFP
VWR Intake system
Milltek Sports-Cat Turbo back
Stock Intercooler
VWR Brakes
VWR Suspension & Bars
Team Dynamics Pro Race 1.2
Gen 4 Haldex Controller

Road tyres, Shell 99 and a wet track all day..

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fo304%2Fjonnnny28%2FIMG_1285.jpg&hash=7958d9418e430cfade599e64264641be0370c958)
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fo304%2Fjonnnny28%2FIMG_1286.jpg&hash=8eedce7a68ef7ac413d0dda43d85fe1379b1a09d)

So heres a little run down of the progress throughout the day!

The day was extremely wet from at the start, and my first run was to be expected..

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fo304%2Fjonnnny28%2Fphoto-18.jpg&hash=a23750bb4207c786a954d2dd8a9d0da0142fb432)

Not great traction but still not a bad 0-60 time.. What I found interesting however was how slow much the surface water slowed down the car (there was A LOT though)

I waited a little longer and tried again as the rain was backing off..

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fo304%2Fjonnnny28%2Fphoto-17.jpg&hash=472570d84d0147458880b828bbfcf5f88c1fa371)

Amazing how much difference a little less surface water made!

So then, I thought that there wasnt really much point trying again until it had stopped raining and once that had happened ran the next lot of runs.. The best of which being..

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fo304%2Fjonnnny28%2FIMG_1276.jpg&hash=542db9f3743ad536e59f94304b201adbbd502300)
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fo304%2Fjonnnny28%2FIMG_1277.jpg&hash=c2ade25b816b9f3d877fb2cfe79ca4155e73781b)

So a fair bit better but still a ton of wheel spin in first and second gear, so I knew there was more in it..

Waited as late as I possibly could before the next lot of rain came in, and although the track was still damp, no dry line at all, it was the most dry and grippiest that it had been all day.. Which resulted in the following!..

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fo304%2Fjonnnny28%2FIMG_1280.jpg&hash=955bb00693b03635a2902d21baeeb3cf9d9574c4)
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fo304%2Fjonnnny28%2FIMG_1282.jpg&hash=aecaa022469c30ff2b5ef51d157ba0f4b31906b9)

Launch felt just perfect, a little wheel spin in first gear due to track being wet and then hooked perfectly in second.. I think it actually helped a little as with the stock DSG software the car does bog on a grippy surface such as Santa Pod.. And also, almost no water on the track really so the car wasnt being held back in that sense..

So I was pretty pleased with that to say the least! Again, I can't stress that this is by far the fastest and most tractable 2.0T FSI that I have ever driven and these latest times show the performance pretty nicely!!..

Really a shame that I wasn't able to run the car at Marham today and have a direct comparison but maybe next time..

I think its important to note that these times are probably more representative of the true day-to-day performance of the car when compared to times at Santa Pod, due to the fact that I was able to make sure the car was nice and cool before each run, no queuing up and also on a non prepped surface meaning that the terminal speeds are not effected by excessive resistance.. (this if anything showed how much difference that makes)

All in all it ended up being a great day and just can't wait for the car to be installed with the APR Intercooler and RSC Exhaust which should open it up even more!.. When thats done I have nominated myself for a trip to Pod with the car to back things up and hopefully run an 11 second 1/4 mile on a stock K04 2.0T FSI.. (in the dry this time) haha..

Until soon..

Saw Jonny's blog on VAGOC and was good to see he had his own little 30-130 day after being let down by MLR..

The Golf certainly seems to shift, but unless it runs on the same strip as we all did it's pointless comparing the times IMO. As has already been said, Marham is uphill for the majority of the 30-130 run..
I was gutted to hear that he had the same problem getting in as one of my mates and that we wasn't going to see the Golf run. Would of been really interesting to see how the BM & Golf compared though considering they have identical terminal speeds at Pod..  :sad1:
Certainly wouldn't want to have a traffic light GP against it though  :surprised: Really can't compete with 4WD + LC + S-Tronic in that environment, awesome figures  :congrats:

I certainly won't lose sleep over it mate, that is for sure.
I have always thought that the 1er was slightly slower than my old ED30 over that range and tbh I would normally have found myself climbing the walls to add more mods to make sure that wasn't the case. However, the way the car is at the minute and the power delivery that it now has post-software, for me has given the car a perfect set up. Yes it could do with a LSD and with a aftermarket exhaust etc would sound even nicer, but I haven't found myself craving the extra power as much as I originally thought.
I must be getting old..  :signLOL:

The fact it posted near identical times to what my Stage 2+ ED30 did last year (16.60 for 135i  vs 16.67 Ed30) is just a bonus   I do miss the bonkers attitude my Eddie had though and it was much more underestimated. I certainly haven't ruled out getting another in the near future as a track car/toy..

Graph of best run from the day for the 1er (including my mate's runs too).
Mine - Red
Light Blue - Manual 135i (identical to mine including DMS map, but manual)
Green - 400bhp Scoob P1
Dark Blue - Stage 2+ S3

Seeing as the 1er run a near identical time to my old Stage 2+ DSG ED30, I asked Dave from MLR is he could overlay last year's best run (Ed30) with this year's best run (135i) to see where the 2 cars may of gained/lost time. This was the result....  :surprised: :surprised: :surprised:

135i - Red
Ed30 -  Blue

To say they are close is an understatement..   :surprised:

Was it dry last year?

Yes mate.. My best run from this year was right at the end of the day though and although it was still very slightly damp, it did grip quite well and only suffered a tiny bit a wheel spin in 2nd..

Ben, über impressive for both of your cars, but the BMW, wow, when you take into account the modds you did on each, the BMW is impressive !!
When you have a comparison like that, I have a better understanding of why you done feel the need to rush down the route of further enhancements

Cheers Tom..

I would dearly love to add a cat-less DP and another 20-30 horses, but the risk of losing warranty and having to change tuners just isn't worth it IMO. Plus as I said before, if it ain't broke...

The Golf did have more mods, but was still far from highly modded when you think that all it had was an exhaust, intake, Fuel pump internals and map. Plus it was lacking in cc's and cylinders too.
To be honest, I never thought the BM would match the Golf's time and had predicted a 17-18sec run at best. Was really shocked after I did my first run and posted a 16.7  :surprised:

Tbh, I completely agree.....leave it be, it's a great all round performer !!

And it looks great too  :happy2:
