Title: Spa-Francorchamps footage
Post by: NeilM on November 15, 2011, 06:27:42 pm
The Daddy, Spa-Francorchamps.

Great weekend with SteveP, QD, Geordie56 and KPM Racing with their drivers.

Didn’t give it 100% as the DSG (Mechatronics) was playing up and it’s a 350 mile drive home.

Immense track and lucky to get good weather,  also had a passenger ride in a VW Cup car which showed it’s not all about big HP, a real eye opener.

Some Go Pro footage, the rear view gives some idea of how steep Raidillon is.

Great footage Neil and some lovely weather for it too.  It was "a bit wet" when I went, but it made it an absolute hoot in the R888's.  :driver:

Steve, 5min 30sec in  this bloke is quick.

I wouldn't fancy 888's in the wet John, even the shaded bits were slippery!

Nice footage! Nice lines, nice weather. What was the air temperature that day? I wounder if you had better weather in November than I got in August.
Looking forward to seeing some more videos ore pictures!

I wouldn't fancy 888's in the wet John, even the shaded bits were slippery!

I guess it all depends on the levels of adrenalin you want  . My Kumho V70A were worn and they are worse than R888 and still I had loads of fun in the rain:

The Exige in front of my didn't (min 9 sec 30)  :sad1:. I guess all what matters is to know you potential and your cars potential and not go over the limit.
And my impression is that in the wet, Spa is not as slippery as you might think. Of course there are a lot of traps and we should all be carefull.
Semislick are definetly loads of fun in the rain

That was bl00dy fast. What power does that thing have?

I was more scared doing 100mph in a downpour on the Autobahn going back home than I was on track  :scared: Those roads are like ice rinks in the wet!!  :driver:

....I recall that was my fault because I had Goodyear Asymmetrics and wasn't as bothered by the heavy rain and I assumed you would have hung back and so obliged me to slow down for you. The trucks were chucking out the water though.

I'm sure that was the only time you ever struggled to keep up with me in your highly modified Ed30, John. It just shows the importance of the appropriate tyres - As it also did on track at Spa when much more powerful cars were spinning off in front of me. I much prefer Spa to Nurburgring - Both great of course.

No cats eyes, no lighting and torrential rain at night is interesting on the A2  :scared:

Well this is the first 5 minutes I've had to spare since we got back from spa to say what a cracking weekend it was all bar one thing happening! I got all of Saturday out of my car and it felt great, the track was amazing but then the turbo which has only covered 300 miles had gone on me again and track covered in white smoke! When thinking back, I had the GIAC map for over a year with no issues, then soon as I switched to revo bang turbo went in 2 days. Then again now after 2 track days. I am really swayed towards there being an issue with over boost or some kind of wrong setup on the map for the TSI engine. So anyone running revo just be cautious of this all be it I don't think a lot of people will be giving there cars the abuse I am without being funny. Next mods are going to be getting under way in the next couple of weeks I hope however because of the turbo issue there is going to be a bit of a change of plans to what is getting done.

That's a few revo'd tsi's that have blown turbo.  Maybe there's a reason APR don't make figures as high as revo on the 2.0TSI

Are slicks allowed (during the public driving sessions they are not allowed)?

Yep Turn 9.

Slicks are allowed on track days if you have roll over protection in the car  :happy2:

On a sessioned track day they normally put them out on their own in my experience.  However my first ever open pit lane trackday was rockingham had guys in the VW Cup cars running full slicks.  Pain in the ass on the short circuit as they closed speed on you so quickly
