Title: Caliper colour
Post by: vRS_Pagey on November 18, 2011, 06:14:54 pm
Ok, so after rather an extensive hunt, I have finally managed to secure a full S3 brake set up.  I was only wanting the fronts but the seller wasn't prepared to split, this isn't to much of an issue as I will only be fitting the fronts and selling on the rears.  My question is this, should I leave the calipers black and paint the OE rears to match or paint the fronts red to match the OE rears?

Personally I would like to stick with the black as they look stealthy, but I'm not sure it will give much of an impact as the car is Black and the wheels are anthracite.

Opinions appreciated.

You could be on to something, the only problem I can see is will I be able to get the colour in heat proof paint?  As I isn't viable to remove the rears for an extended period to get them painted......

Orange would have looked funky andy, esp. if you did the rears too!

One of the guys on Briskoda has an R32 set up in green, I love the colour but I think it's a step backwards, if that makes sense?

Have you got a linky to Chris's, I wouldn't mind seeing it?

I've seen a set of RS6 8 pots in white and they looked sweet, but for me you cant beat the traditional red paint. And its functional, anyone whos made the mistake of touching them after a drive will tell you their F**kin RED hot

Man they look good Rich.....

Well the votes are in and based on that I am going to be boring and go for red!  I now have two choices, I can either buy some caliper paint and do them myself, or a company local to me will powder cost them for £50.  I'm swaying toward the powder coat for durability and finish but they have said they need the caliper stripped for the process (temps up to 200 celsius).  I would guess the pistion rings/seals will need removing but what else?

Cheers, Lee.

Decided to go for red, (I think Richards picture was the final nail) now just trying a few different ideas for the pad retaining clip, below is my latest idea - carbon fibre wrap with vRS badge?

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi936.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fad203%2Fpagey1255%2FIMAG0691.jpg&hash=9b7afef2a6b31b4dc060a7c276e53f5f10bc9738)

Well happy with the badge, a mate knocked up the artwork in a couple of minutes then produced 10 stickers for 5 quid!  :happy2:
