Title: Software updates
Post by: vwdubster77 on November 21, 2011, 07:59:59 am
As per title,

Should you have to pay for a software update by the dealer for any ECU, if the vehicle is out of its warranty?

Should an extend VW warranty cover this?

All comments welcome.

They would update it for free, when it is in for a service, but if you go in asking for an update then they are going to charge you for their time.

An ECU update was a recall, if this is what u mean. This should be sone for free whether u have warranty or not. When I got my 5 I called up my local VW & asked if there was any existing recalls that were outstanding and they done the coils packs and ECU update for free.

I had mine in for coil packs and the latest software update back last year.
This was after the EPC light came on.
I had a right battle with the dealers but eventually got it done free of charge as a recall.
Keep on top of them as you will get nowt!!
