Title: Cambelt change - 40k or 60k
Post by: mafri on November 21, 2011, 08:05:10 pm
I have never owned a car with such a baffling service regime.

Should my 57 GTI have it's Camelot changed at 40k intervals, or 60k. I have searched the forum and found posts supporting both options........

Thanks

Haha, so true!

VW advised me that it was to be carried out at 40k, but mine actually needed changing prior to that anyway.

It's either 60k miles or 4 years. Which ever comes soonest.

  I have my iPad to thank for that! http://damnyouautocorrect.com/

My car is coming up to 40k and is just over 4 years old, so it seems like I need to spend some money.  :scared: thanks all for your help.

I had mine changed at 60k - i think the h/b says to inspect every 40k after the change?

Dealer fixed price for cambelt and water pump is £399

I experienced the same confusion when I got my GTI recently. For the VAG 2.0 TFSI engine I was advised 60k or 4 years by an Audi specialist, and 40k or 4 years by a VW specialist. My owner's manual says 100k with no time limit. For the sake of £300 quid I'd play it safe and go with 40k or 4 years. And get the waterpump done at the same time.

4 years or 40k miles, whichever comes first. Says so on VW web site : http://www.volkswagen.co.uk/owners/servicing/fixed-price-servicing# (http://www.volkswagen.co.uk/owners/servicing/fixed-price-servicing#) when you click on "what do I need"

I also had the dealer on the phone to remind me !

My Ed30 was 4 years old this month and although its only done 16000+ miles it had to have:---  new cambelt & waterpump, DSG service ( again recommended to be done every 4 years ), annual service and an MOT. Must be honest and say the work seems to have been carried out really well with no marks or problems on the car and it drives as good as ever,  done at main VW dealer. Glad most of that only has to be done every 4 years otherwise it would probably have to go  :sad1:

My ED30 has just this week hit 40K and will not be 4 years old until May next year, but when I was in VW having a spare key coded they recommended the service in the next 6 weeks.
Then i noticed 2 days later my car saying on the highline screen "service in 700 miles or 76 days".

My car only does about 30 miles per week so the 76 days will come up 1st. IM not planning on getting it serviced until April May tho as it had it last VW service in may this year at 36K.

I thought the DSG service was 40K miles with no mention of time?

DSG service should be done at 40K yes, im lucky that mine had its mechatronics replaced at 39k by VW and they did oil at same time, unless yours has been done i would recommend getting at least the DSG service

I have seen in a manual 120,000 miles!. In my manual on the vRS is says 180,000km (112,000). My belt has now 105k on it but getting it changed next week. Some guy on Vortex never replaced his and it snapped at 215k.

I think the noisier the Ed30 gets and the more it sounds like a diesel the more likely it is to need cambelt and tensioners replacing, read that on these forums somwwhere!. I would never go more than 60K without changing belt or every 4 years, bestter a £400 bill than a £2k bill  :happy2:
