Title: Another 56 plate with rust on it!!
Post by: njdudsbury on November 22, 2011, 10:25:22 pm
Gave my car the monthly deep clean and noticed some corrosion in the following places.
On both wiper arms around the fixing nut area.
And worse still under the front lip of the bonnet running from the edge up to the rubber stop (drivers side)

Question:-
What is the process?
Do I go down the dealers then they take details and send to VW uk for assessment?

Don't expect this on a six year old car!
Pretty cheesed off as I have kept it mint from new and its only got 38k on the clock

Cheers

Very annoying to hear a car starting to rust so early.
I hope you get it sorted.

+1.  I've had lots of work done by Parkway Paint and Body and they have always been spot on for me too.  :happy2:

Took it to Parkway Derby and the chap didn't have a problem with what i showed him.
He is going to recommend that the bonnet is replaced as the problem is on the inside of the outer skin which you cant physically get to, to repair.
He also did say the VW are the worst warrenty people to deal with having work at other car dealers in the past. Every warranty job that comes in is a battle!
See what happens.

I took mine into Colbournes Guildford today, as it had a couple of spots and loose paint on the o/s/r wheelarch (a common problem apparently). They checked it out, and refused my claim, as it had already been repaired in this area, and badly. Still waiting for their quote.  They said it didn't matter that I was 3rd owner though, it's the car that is covered for 12 years.

Got a price of 240 from Bells Accident repair in Guildford, which included sorting out 3 other scratches on the same wing.

Went in to remind them yesterday and VW warranty have chucked out a new bonnet and said it its just a rub down and paint job based on the images provided. How can you rub it down and then paint over the rust that is coming from the inside of the bonnet skin!! Guy at VW fully backs me and said we should remove some sealant and get some better photo's to show the rust coming from the inside. I,m a bit concerned about doing that incase it all gets chucked out (which I dont think will happen) and leave me with a rusty car with the sealant cut away?
Anybody been in a similar situation??
Cheers

Well been down the body shop again today. They took some sealant off and there is rust all the way along the seam between to inner ans outer skins. Look like its been there ages and only just getting through the paint after 5 years. Dont expect to pay 18k from 2 months old and have rust on it.
Anybody else got rust under their bonnet? Have a look as I never realised until I gave it a good clean under there.

That's how mine is there will be loads of rust underneath, I was shocked to see how much when we cut the sealant back.
The paint looks like its got tiny water bubbles as you say. I will try and get a picture in the morning and post it.
Cheers

Just had another call from the body shop to say VW uk have agreed to replace the complete bonnet.
Pleased about that didn't want to have it painted to see the rust come back in a few years.
Might have it in for a cam belt and pump at the same time
Whats the going rate for that at the minute?
