Title: RCD / RNS 510 users. How strong is your radio signal?
Post by: jedi-knight83 on November 24, 2011, 08:55:41 am
So press and hold setup for a few seconds and then select fm

I know my second antenna isn't working. I was making the bridging cables to get around the diversity box last night and I fudged up the second cable so only one working at the moment.

Anyway. How strong is your signal usually.

Mine is usually 30-50dBuV and rarely on stereo. Usually on mono. Testing on radio 1

Is it normal to always be on mono?(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.tapatalk.com%2F52848b9a-0687-08b8.jpg&hash=a7b587f741b2a770ce2e122244f8c76e3e59c233)

no.  the signal level is too low to resolve the stereo channel info, so its defaulted to mono to keep working

just been out and plugged mine in.  r1 is vitually off the scale.  about 2mm of the bar code left to go at the end.  stereo with ant1 and ant2 both on (but you know why you only have 1)

tried a couple more all much the same (bbc stuff)

ps largely depends where you are though.  if you normally only get Radio1 in mono then it could be normal.  check it when your nearer the transmitter maybe?  look for stonger stations and check the level.

    Im starting to get fed up thinking about fm/dab aerial solutions now.

Ive just installed an RCD510 today and checked the signal quality and accross all major stations Im receiving MONO quality. Im close to north london.  :surprised: Would additional coding be required to sort this out/improve the quality?

Yeah both fm and am working. The aerial adaptor I bought this morning has the white and brown connectors at one end and are only a specific fit for each aerial so you can't change them over. Glad I didn't go Dab route. Thanks again Eddie for quick email responses. On a side note I used a set of plastic painting knifes to remove the trim and not a single mark or scratch on the dash. About 2 quid from hobby craft  :happy2:

in the diagnostic screen does it say that antenna 1 and 2 are both on?

if not you may have the diversity box under your drivers seat that you will need to bridge

Yeah, both antenna are working in am and fm. No diversity box.
