Is changing the heaviness of my power steering possible on my 2004 gt tdi through VCDS?. The steering feels too light at the moment.
-
hmm i'm interested in this too. my steering has become lighter since i swapped to lighter wheels. it'll get lighter still when i get my NQS and lighter discs on. if it could be beefed up a bit that would be good!

Somebody mentioned on here about when you add WALK is makes the steering a little bit heavier and you'd have the added bonus of less understeer etc :happy2:

That's good to know. Got a WALK waiting to go on!

Steering 'weight' can be adjusted with vcds, I did it on my 2006 A3 as I really disliked the light steering after coming from a mkv gti, you need to adjust the value in the 'steering boost' setting
The lower the value the heavier the steering will feel due to less electrical assistance and it does make quite a difference to how the car feels imo :happy2:
I believe the ability to change this setting was dropped on 2007-on models but you should be able to change it on a 2004
For info my A3 S-line was set at '6' from the factory compared to a friends mkv gti which at the time was set to '3'..

As above, my steering is firmer after the install of the superpro wishbone bushes with anti lift and mount :happy2:

i fitted the WALK to my mk6 gti and the steering is definitely a little heavier which i prefer. i would like it heavier still but don't think its adjustable on the mk6
-
Beddie is correct, the later cars this isnt possible on

Here's a quick how to on changing the steering boost settings :happy2:
Click on '44-Steering assist'
When you go into this module, it will scan for fault codes and go straight to a fault code screen. It should say 'No Fault Codes Found'. Click the 'Done, go back' button to get to the main screen for this module.
Click on 'Adaptation - 10'
Click on the 'Channel Number' "Up" Icon until it shows Channel 1
Click the 'Up' or 'Dn' buttons to get to a new value, don't just type it in. People report liking '0' (least boost) through '3' as new settings, I personally prefer '2'.
Click 'Save'
It may ask "Are you sure", click "Yes"
You may want to check again to make sure your new setting is showing up in the 'Stored Value' field, just to be sure.
Click 'Done, go back'
Click 'Close controller, Go Back'
