Title: TT arms+hubs+BBK wheel spacers=too much width?
Post by: jimk04 on December 04, 2011, 03:41:30 pm
I have some TT arms to go on and thinking of going ally hubs too.

If then I want to fit a bbk and need to space my wheels (currently 17" monza), will I end up too wide and looking stoopid :rolleye:?!

Thanks

TT arms and S3 alloy hubs gives you 10mm wider track each side, so with spacers you should consider 195 width tyres and you'll be fine

Serious, you will be in trouble with stock front fenders and anything bigger than 7,5" width rims if you use spacers IMO of course  :happy2:

NQS BBK? just a thin shim spacer required with this kit with the 17" Monza.

If your going for TD 1.2.s with a 45 offset it might be a bit close to the wire though. They are available in a 50 offset also. There is a screw on the inner arch that can be removed and a small amount of plastic shved away that will give a bit more clearance

If you go for the s3 brake kit you can use pretty much most 17" wheel and all 18's without spacers. They are heavy though and not really what you would call a BBK

Most other BBK's require a 5-10mm spacer with OEM wheels.

My current setup is TT arms and NQSBBK.
IMO the only spacers I would use (and I use spacers) are the hubcentric ones. These add another 10mm of track on each side.
With 7,5x17 ET 50 rim (equivalent to Monza) with 10mm spacers I have a lot of rubbing on the Nurburgring but no rubbing on smooth circuits (my car is not lowered too much, only about 2cm lower than stock).
So:
- this setup is ok with Monzas and 10mm hubcentric spacers but only on smooth circuits (not like Nurburgring)
- using spacers is ok and the car looks great with them. Below is a picture of my car
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1237.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fff469%2Fvladpanut%2Fsite_DSC_0034.jpg&hash=9870e737221d84cca2200d7fd818489dd1a5923d)
- I have rubbbing on Nurburgring even with 8x17 ET 50 rims. So buying ET 50 Team Dynamics won't help
The way I hope I am solving the issues:
- I bought 8x17 ET 45 TD (not yet fitted) and hope the rims go over the nqsbbk without spacers
- buy Kerscher front fenders for another 25mm of space.
Cheers  :drinking:

Confirming my thoughts really that to add the arms and hubs - then to squeeze a spacer in too is a bit much!

I think I will go ally hubs in the meantime until I sort a BBK, then revert back to steel hubs when the brakes go on.

This will give me a spare steel hub on the bench to play about with different brakes too!

There is no increased width (track width) fi you use alloy hub compared to steal hub.
The TT arms go with both hubs. And the TT arms are the ones responsible for the extra track width.
Without using the TT arms a lot of people have BBK with 10mm spacers and no problems.

Oh! :surprised:

I thought the TT arms added some width and the aluminium (S3 type) hubs added some more width?

S3 hubs have the same geometry as the steel GTI hubs. They are lighter though.

TT hubs i believe add more track

I had no problems with TT arms and VWR brakes running TD's 8x18 ET45 20mm lower

I have read he TT arms add 7 mm and the S3 hubs a further 3mm
