I have to agree, it is a brilliant camera!

.
Interesting comparison but it all depends what you want to achieve with your photography (and how deep your pockets are).
Cameras in phones are all designed to satisfy people who are primarily interested in just the subject (for example, their best mate misbehavin'?) and don't have a clue about what potential photography has as an artform. They're snapshot cameras for average consumers just to record an event. Of course a good photographer can get the best out of one but the camera is limited, just as a compact digital has limitations when compared with a professional DSLR.

The best camera is the one you`ve got on you at the time.. :)

....So true! :happy2: And it's the reason I always carry my FinePix F500EXR compact with me all the time - Because it's small enough to be able to.

Yup. Saw that quoted by a Pro last week. :happy2:

Nice comparison, Rich :happy2:

Read this earlier at lunchtime.
Also true about carrying cameras and why I went for a high-end compact rather than a dSLR.

+1 But even though I have 3 including my phone I never seem to get any spur of the moment pics :rolleye:
But in regards to the Iphone vs DSLR Yes the picture quality on the Iphone or quite a few other phones is now good it still wouldn't replace my SLR. I couldnt picture myself (no pun intended) Standing up on the side of a hill pointing my Iphone at passing aircraft  Unless I can get my hands on one of these

But one thing I have been thinking about lately, would it be possible to develop an app for the Iphone which would allow you full control over the camera e,g shutter speed etc.

How would you connect the iPhone to the camera?
-
It just sits over the lens, Rich..
-
That was on the gadget show a couple of months ago, very cool but could probably get a feature packed compact for the money
-

Nooo.. i meant the iPhone app to control the camera. :P

I do have the Iphone 4 (not S) and also the 5D mk2 and by no means the picture quality is so close as in the comparison made by that girl. 5D with some L lenses is a wonder. I'm using it with 24-70 f2.8L and the colours, sharpness, noise or dynamic range are sublime. The pics from the Iphone are decent but quite dull, with poor white balance and detail !

I upgraded my 3gs to a 4s a few month ago mainly for the camera, no need to carry about a decent compact around with you all the time.
I found it to be great, only downside is the lack of deep of field, ability to fully edit the photos on the phone and taking pictures at night.
Here's a good comparison, first shot was with a canon 500d 18-200mm lens, second was with my iphone 4s set to HDR mode. Both then edited with camera raw.

No excuse now for saying "sorry for the crap pictures they were taken on my phone.
Heres a few other taken recently, edited on phone with instagram app.
