Title: My new project - now with piccies
Post by: Jussa on December 06, 2011, 03:47:19 am
Well after my Stage 2+ GTi  I thought it was time to have a play with an all wheel drive toy.
She was dirty when I took the pics, as I'd just bought her and driven her home from Watford and hadn't yet had a chance to clean her  :innocent:
I can't actually express how happy I am with her, and the S-Tronic box is an absolute dream  :jumpmove:
Booked in at Awesome GTi this weekend for a day and a half of toys to be added to her, so those pictures, as well as interior shots will follow shortly.

It's a very long list  :signLOL:
Full Milltek TBE
ITG CAI
HPFP
Forge Twintercooler
H&R lowering springs
Spacers, size yet to be decided
Revo Stage 2+ map  :jumping: :jumping: :jumping: :jumping:
Not to forget a nice service to change her to time and distance.
Can't do the DSG map as it can't be done on cars after 2008
I've already change the alloys, but all these pics will be posted on the members projects forum next week  :pomppomp: :pomppomp:

Thanks mate, not sure yet on the power, but she'll be RR'd at Awesome on Friday and Saturday.  Anything more than 340bhp I'll be happy with
Does anybody know whether they have Dyno Dynamic rollers there?

S'funny Sy, don't see the massive torque figures when 4WD, mine on Awesomes rollers made, within a couple of ft/lbs and bhp, the same as R tech 5 days later, and Redlines DD last year, so maybe its the 2WD calibration thats not quite right????? Nick at R tech did show me how he could make the torque over 410ft/lbs on mine just by calibrating the rollars 250rpm out vs engine speed.

:signLOL: no it was a silve banged up MK5 TDi went really well.  Battery was dead though, and eventually after a 4 hour wait the RAC arrived and needed jump leads and a battery pack together to get it started  :fighting:
Didn't have too much time to play with the new beast, but will tomorrow and will also post some pics!!!
She RR at 347bhp and almost 330lbs/ft torque, so no sure whether that's good or bad?  Tom and Gary to comment

Looks so much better with the 2011 wheels on mate.

That sounds about right for the power mate, torque seems fairly blob on too. At the end of day it's all about what it's like on the road and I bet it properly flies!

Good work!

The interesting thing is the exhaust.  It's way louder than the Milly I had on the stage 2+ GTi and I mean way louder  :signLOL:  it sounds like an aeroplane taking off when u give it some berries!!
Is the S3 lump meant to be that much louder?

Will be the turbo and exhaust size mate. Your old Golf was on a K03 I take it? The exhaust would of been 2.5/2.75 inches in diameter. The S3 is on a K04 and will be on a 3 inch turbo back. Hence the big noise!

Thanks Tom  :happy2:
Just a bit concerned the timing is a bit low at 4, so I'm going to get the logs checked again, as I reckon it should be at 5 or 6?  If I remember correctly I have boost 9, timing 4 and fuel 6, but will confirm later.  I will post up the RR figures tomorrow.  In the meantime here are some shots of the work in action.

It starts

Well after not posting on my project for ages I thought it was time to give a small update.    :rolleye:

Did a some runs a few weeks back at the pod!!

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fh473%2Fjussa1%2F0aa7d489fe8a8b74b3aeaabe2d93b69a.jpg&hash=e349d879326a058aeaa2b6de1efe6f2959e25b81)

Was really disappointed with my times - fastest being 13 secs flat, especially after I was running 12.7 at Inters  :fighting:

I booked her in for a service and health check!!!
After the service I had the new Revo stage 2+ map added, and had her Revo settings changed from summer to a winter setup (probably the reason for my bad 'pod' times)

Anyway, after a few chats with Hurdy I decided to get a GIAC DSG map to further improve my times and driveability.
What a palava this was, travelling down to Southampton (Regal Autosports) 3 times to eventually get it sorted (184 mile round trip) as they didn't have my DSG code on their system.
I plumped for their stage 2 map and What a difference it makes, and definitely money well spent.  She now launches at 4500rpm absolutely awesome!!
Did a few logs on the VI monitor  :jumpmove:
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fh473%2Fjussa1%2F81D344AB-2C84-4F57-82C3-C97186504401-6925-000002AAE033CC0A.jpg&hash=f2729bf0b0079efe1d6c81c070da66da214aa81e)

After Xmas I'll be going back to try out the GIAC Extreme map to see how she marries up with the DSG map.  It's not cheap, but I do get 30 days to decide whether I want a refund and go back to Revo.
Hurdy reckons I won't be asking for the refund!!!   :popcornsoda:

About time you had an update, its almost a year out of date

Will be interested to see how you find this new GIAC map.  DJHorace and his mate in their Leons used to go head to head with virtually identical hardware and setups but the GIAC lost out to REVO everytime.

The bad news for me is your slowest timeup the strip is still much faster than what i can hope for :sad1:  I'll just have to settle for beating your Golf last time

Whats the current spec?
Title: Re: My new project - now with piccies
Post by: Jussa on December 07, 2012, 05:58:54 pm
you're right, been really slack  :signLOL:

Which GIAC map are you referring to that did the REVO head to head?
I assume it wasn't the new one that Hurdy had installed?  :innocent:

My spec is as per my signature - 2010 3dr phantom black S-Tronic stage 2+ S3 - Milltek TBE- Autotech HPFP - ITG CAI - H&R 25mm lowering springs - Forge 11mm spacers - RS4 fuel Pressure valve & THS intercooler - H&R front and rear ARB's running the new Revo stage 2+ map

I want to do a quarter mile run before I get the GIAC map then I can compare the 2 afterwards before deciding which I go for!!

That was probably a couple of years ago. Owen sold up ages ago. It was waaaay before any revised Revo Stage 2+ code and the new GIAC code. Statller did a lot of work on both those cars.

Not sure if Owen's car was stripped of a lot of it's interior, but Al's (DJ) had at least the rear seats out iirc.

you're right, been really slack  :signLOL:

Which GIAC map are you looking at? The Extreme map requires a 3" VF intake, the brand new Stage 2 map is suitable for EvoMS, ITG etc...

Will be interesting to see like-for-like times. Do you have any dyno plots or figures for the current Revo map?

No dyno's or figures yet, but will be getting a dyno with the Revo before and the GIAC after.
You seem to have the same setup as Hurdy.
Is that 3" VF intake the only extra I need?  How much are they?
Is the extreme map a lot different to the new stage 2 map?

I'm running the same engine code as Hurdy, but he's running a Stage 3 DSG map, where as I am running Stage 2.

No idea how much the VF intakes are, a quick Google search doesn't turn up a great deal tbh. I'm sure Regal, Statller or GIAC would be able to give you some more info.

The new Stage 2 code is very strong anyway (it's the GIAC Stage 2+ equivalent, making 360+bhp), so I'm sure how much over Stage 2 the Extreme map will give.

There will be very little in it between an Extreme map and the new stage 2 GIAC maps. The Extreme map is an older version of the stage 2+ map that is based on the larger MAF housing of the VF intake and uses MAF scaling in the map to work out what the engine needs in terms of fuelling etc. IIRC the VF intake is 70mm inside diameter and the std MAF internal diameter is 62mm?

The maps roughly produce the same results and both have a pump version (using normal 98ron and above) or the race version (using WMI or race fuels)

The race versions can produce even more bhp and lbft  :innocent:

The stage 3 DSG map ramps things up a little more and the clamping pressure is elevated even more than stage 2 (I specified max pressure possible). Also the gearchanges are even faster at stage 3 than stage 2.

I think that GIAC also do an extreme plus map, but I think this is more like a stage 3 map!

Don't wanna hijack the thread or take things off topic too much (I guess Jussa might have similar questions) but do you know if GIAC can hold multiple maps on the R ECU Hurdy?

I'm going WMI early next year, but probably don't wanna run a Race file all the time. Also, I loved the ability to switch to Stock & Valet on my Cupra. Is there a Race version of the Stage 2 code we're  running currently?

GIAC do a flashloader similar to Revo's SPS controller. It just stores the maps though and not the ability to alter boost, timing and fueling settings.

Cool. Cheers. I've already got one from my Curpa, just wondered if the R's ECU was capable of switching. I think APR have issues which between maps with the stalk on the R - wondered if GIAC were likely to have the same issues. Will have to get the Stock & Valet maps added  :happy2:

I do like the look of the smart phone app - shame it doesn't work with iOS.
