Title: Temp gauge won't settle
Post by: Pullafacial on December 06, 2011, 05:30:45 pm
Hi all, i have a bit of a strage problem with my Gti.
For the last couple of months, i've noticed the tempreture gauge doing strange things. It only seems to get the quarter mark then hovers up and down a bit.
I know its been cold lately so may take longer to warm up but it doesn't matter how far i drive, it won't get upto tempreture.
A couple of months ago, I had the car mapped and the problem seems to have started then but i'm fairly sure this is not related. Other than that, no changes have been made. I feel fairly sure something is not right as until now, its always been dead stable, ie gets to the halfway point within a few miles and stays there regardless of outside tempreture.

Any help or advice greatly appreciated.

Steve

Could be a faulty thermostat that's stuck open...

+1...

Mate's old banger does this, in fact when on the motorway it drops to near enough the bottom of the gauge
