Title: Had Coolant Changed...
Post by: Betty02 on December 08, 2011, 09:25:22 am
...Ok this may sound stupid and is probably right but I just want to make sure!

Brother works at kwik-sh*te so anyway popped in to see him yesterday to get my hand on some cheap/free winter tyres :D whilst I was there he did a coolant change on the car, drained all the old out and stuck in new stuff.

Anyway driving to work this morning, roughly 7 degrees which is the same as yesterday the car seamed to take longer to warm up and get to peak temp? Is this normal after a change or should it all stay the same as it is?

I don't honestly know but I'd probably be more worried if it took LESS time to warm up and then overheated lol

Did he use G12 coolant or the sh*te from a motorfactors?  If the G12 is mixed with anything else it turns a nasty brown and makes the nice white coolant bottle brown too.

Not sure what he used to be totally honest his words were 'the premium sh*t'! He fully drained my system over suction then replaced, current one was a pinky red this one is a nice ice blue!

Said it;s a 5 year grade? :S

Should be g12 coolant, which is bright orange, blue is usually just cheapo motorfactors stuff.

Latest VW spec coolant is G12++. That's what you should be getting for it.

Didn't think there was a service interval for the coolant?.I'm shure it's just top up as required as in a cam belt/water pump change?.
