Title: 20,000 miles before oil change - should I buy???
Post by: Alex777 on December 11, 2011, 09:50:46 am
Hi All

Looking for some advice as potentially buying my first mk5 GTI THIS MORNING!!! The car I am going to see is on an 07 plate with high mileage (74,000) but has full VWSH and cambelt change in 2010.  The only thing stopping me for going for it is that in 11 months it went 19,000 miles between services (e.g. serviced at 40,000 miles then not again until 59,000 11 months later - no indication of long lifes service/oil being used).  It has had another VW service since at 70,000.

Would this put anyone off buying a mk5 gti as I really like it and it's advertised at a good price, £8,000

Many thanks

Alex

Long life servicing is the norm having said that even tho mine is a diesel I still service it every 8/10k I don't think any oil should be left unchanged for more than 10/12k, when it first came out LL servicing was aimed at fleet cars, buy it but service it every 10k mate

I would say it gives an indication off lots of motorway miles, which is a good thing. It appears to have been driven well, if it managed to go that far on a long life service plan.   :santa:

I would go for it mate and change the oil at 5-10k intervals, my 2007 Cupra is on 51k but I have always changed the oil at 10k intervals.

I'm going to start changing it every 5k now that the engine has got past 50k
