when over taking today, hard down in 3rd gear, a yellow light came up whcich means, "fault in the exhaust system", could be misfire and damage cat?
it went off after several flashs...
i have emailed revo, but alittle worried :-|
-
Did it pop a bit under hard load? and seem down on power??
Coil pack at a guess..
-
nope, seemed fine :s

Second Lambda sensor.. Is is a CEL?
Are you running a non standard downpipe?
-
well i guess so, it was on the dash rev counter.
nope standard everything.
just remap...
-
I think you need to be more specific with what light it was...
E.G. was it this one?

I presume so?
Best thing to do is to hook it up to VAGCOM, there's little use speculating as to what the problem is, it could be a number of different things
-
yus it was, the "fault in exchause system" light...
i dont have vag-com and no1 near me does :(

If its just a light and the car is otherwise running fine it will just be either a faulty cat, or second lamba probe, if your running milltek etc, then its not a concern, if your running standard, its a good excuse to upgrade, if you want to never see that light again, go Revo stage 2 :happy2:
-
could the remap cause it?
-
His car has a problem and all you guys can tell him to do is Upgrade
I love it!
**P.S I hope the car is sorted soon**
-
well the light went out after a few so duno if its an issue or not. last thing i wanna do is take it to my rubbish stealers for them to say its the revo, tough sh*t..
-
Until you can get the fault code read from the ECU to tell you what it is Steve your not going to know :happy2:
-
You could try ringing the RAC/VW assist. They should have the necessary to read the fault codes.
Without that it is just speculation.
-
I also had the same symptom after revo/fuel pump was added.
Revo confirmed it was indeed a CEL issue which can be rectified by upgrading the exhaust/down pipe.
You may still wish to get things checked with your local revo chappy for peace of mind.
-
hum, may leave it and see if it comes back. i know going to my stealers is a bad idea and will come back worse off!
if only i had a local guy! shame... but is it a fault or just down to putting out more exhaust gas cuz of map...
-
Just drive it gently steve till youve taken it to someone to check it out on VCDS.
Dont go stage 2 just yet, or you could end up with your engines insides dripping on your driveway.
Best be safe then sorry.
More likely the remap has upset the Ecu in some way.
Take it back to the place who did your remap.
-
CEL light on a stg1 car would indicate a misfire , usually coil packs on the way out or a fuelling issue.
Drive the car normally (no heavy load) until you get the code downloaded. (prob random misfire , or specific cyl)
The light will flash 3 times , then if the problem persists stay lit (and need fault code cleared to get rid of it again)
most likely you need to change your REVO settings , or a coilpack has been pushed over the edge by the remap.
Get the code and take it from there...
-
got no one to check it... thats th eproblem
-
put a shout out for someone with VAGCOM near to you , or at a show soon :happy2:
-
Steve did you not have a fiddle with your settings when you first got the map.
-
yeah but its put to what carl though, b7 t5 f9
-
If it occured anywhere near limiter my guess - and it is a guess - as I've had same problem with mine is multiple misfire.
Comes with the remap - if yours is an 08 plate I'd bet quite a lot more on it.
Regards,
Gareth

Quite often the CEL will disappear with a number of ignition key turns but the fault will still be logged.
I know I am not quite local but if I can help then let me kow.
-
JKM saturday steve  someone im sure will help u down there.
-
bit far to drive for sure if theres a problem...
the light was off on way to work, drove reasonably spirited and it came back on, it has now stayed on. so gonnahave to take it to VW!! bloody great!!
i have a forge spacer which i wanna take off, but dont have the original bolts (shorter ones), do you think they will blame that at all?????
-
See if anyone near you has a Bluefin unit or a ScanGauge. They can read fault codes too which would at least point you in the right direction.
Or drop into a your local garage/workshop - most places have a generic code reader these days, chuck them a some beer money and see if they will just scan the codes for you.
Unfortunately, we can only speculate until you can provide a fault code. Have you contacted your Revo dealer?
-
revo dealer is 60miles away :(
gonna set my revo to 0 and disconnect the battery, see, then take it in to vw if need be
-
Steve, stay calm!
Just post for help , Im sure theres someone close with VAGCOM
The CEL is probably due to remap so may not appear in stock mode.
Im not sure a battery disconnect clears the codes anway , does it?
CEL is a way of life with a mapped GTI until its stablised so roll with it
-
not sure it does, but hay.. i wouldnt midn taking it in to vw but
a) i dont want them to clear the map, or even tell them, would like to avoid that...
b) the spacer is on and i wanna get rid, but cannot as i didnt get the original shorter bolts back when it was fitted!
-
right i have a handhelp vw diag thing coming from a friend, so will find the code out... and clear the light
-
good news
heres a lookup list
