All this talk about the rear break light in the spoiler got me thinking of something billy was saying at the EVO drive!?
He mentioned the rear break llights being programmed through VagCom to light up as the full circle instead of half circle!? kind of like a skylines!
i think it would look cool if it could be done! does anybody know??

No not VAGCOM joe, it was summit on a yankie site/vortex,
a wire soldered over 2 points in the light board, i did it myself but the ''bulb out'' came on, plus then i read that it didnt work on 56reg cars only some earlys
i will have a scout about for it again, it went under the heading of 'full circle brake lights'

Are the bulbs capable of this?
I thought the ones that are brake and lights are twin filament jobbies and the other half are just normal bulbs, some clever wiring and the right bulbs/holders could make it possible

no iirc the bulbs are single filament and the car does some magic and makes them brake lights when you brake :happy2:

Should just be a case of some trick wiring then :happy2: might need a resistor if it's throwing a bulb out warning
-
yeah sounds like it could be a resistor jobbie, i might give it ago myself :scared:
-
i remember reading about it and you had to put a resistor oo the light ..can't remember where i rear it thou

Wiring the lights in parallel will half the resistance so it should only need a 2.5 ish ohm resistor

Take a look at this: http://uk-mkivs.net/forums/p/145191/967821.aspx#967821
Looks pretty easy but people say that the "bulb out light" comes on.
-
hazard flashing under heavy braking sounds pretty good too

The other issue is whilst the brake light is on it can 'drown out' the indicator if you are waiting to turn...............

mine does that standard!

very much so, its a pain that on the mk5, the rear indicators are shocking!

i asked tom if hes old ed 30 did it and he said not. im sure there was plenty of times he dived on the brakes too!

It's an excellent feature as it really draws you attention to the car in front. The flashing brake lights on the Merc should be law IMHO as it really alerts you to the fact that its an emergency stop, particularly on the motorway at high speed.
Is this a feature than can be switched on using VAGCOM or does it require an update to control module too (hence why it's on newer models?) as I would be keen to enable something like this - along with the fog lights acting as turning lights - but thats a different can of worms.

I think they can be turned on in vagcom as our friendly cruise-control fitter, VRStu, activated mine when he put in my cruise.
Have to say though, that I'm not too sure whether it works as I haven't had the need to brake that hard.
