Title: Phil's TR Edition30
Post by: polished_phil on December 14, 2011, 05:16:50 pm

Recentley joined up on here looking for a MK5 Gti, fortunatley for me this edition30 turned up for sale locally and although red would be my last choice, i kinda fell in love with it so i got myself a new motor and spent most of yesterday giving it a quick winter detail along with changing a few bits, so heres a mega quick write up...

So the aim was to get a quick winter protection detail done before the winter really sets in. I got a little carried away on the bonnet though which was the worst affected area.

so i started by...

sod it heres the pics

lights how there were before

thanks mate, the light aren't 100% yet as is the paintwork. To do the lights you need to flat them back with wet and dry first, then polish, this was just done quickly with a spot pad and some cutting compound to rid of all the major scratches and swirls.

Once the winter's out the way it'll get a full on treatment.  :xmaspresent:

Josh...the orangeness might just come from the white balance on the camera not being right. Still looks fantastic though.

again big thanks for all the kind words.  Its a long way off being perfect yet, but with only a day put aside to get some protection on there before winter and inject a bit of life back into it the paint.

Hopefully have a few more changes coming soon, although it's quite funny looking around at other Ed30 examples, as the mods which i've intended on doing before i even decided to buy it seem to be the norm.

Also i see what you mean about the orange-ness in the photos.  All fixed now though... i think.

thanks guys, yeh im based in the north east and im the regional Swissvax detailer for this area. (if im not aloud to say this please tell me and ill edit it)

so a "couple" :stupid: of pleasant hours were spent today bring the edition30 a little closer to terra firma.

Started like this

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Ft79%2Fphilipreynolds%2FIMG_9838.jpg&hash=4553b0912ca76a896d2fb113f093022c711945ce)

Went like this.

but ended up like this

and now i'm suffering bad with "Man Flu" today. Never the less had a few bits to do this morning and thought i may as well get a few better pics of the new lows whilst the car was warming up.

yeh sure i used 3m green top cutting compound with a green cutting spot pad, then worked down compounds and pads until refined. As i say, they could do with a light wet sand first then the same process again, you have to be careful not to burn or warp the plastic though as i guess like most materials it could happen.

do you think i could get similar affect by firtsly cleaning the lights like normal to get rid of all the dirt/dust then wet sanding, then applying autosmart evo compound then super resin polish?

As long as your doing with a machine, by hand its going to take a lot longer to rectify the wet sanding, try it first without wet sanding see what results you come out with.

do you think i could get similar affect by firtsly cleaning the lights like normal to get rid of all the dirt/dust then wet sanding, then applying autosmart evo compound then super resin polish?

As long as your doing with a machine, by hand its going to take a lot longer to rectify the wet sanding, try it first without wet sanding see what results you come out with.

al right thanks i don't paticulary want to be using the machine so ill try with just try autosmart

Nice stance that is Phil following your latest mods.

Still very pleased with my 'winter protection detail' you did on my Ed30 about 3 weeks back.

You know this forum will only encourage the mods though.

Just a thought but personally I think a smaller width plate (US Spec?) rear bumper would suit your narrower rear plate.
I could be wrong but think Steve P on here may have one on his Golf, which is also red.

That white ED30 is stunning, what's the exhaust? Looks similar to the Miltek but not indentical

Cheers for posting up some pictures of my car Phil.
Shame to hear you may be selling your red machine. Especially as it looks so good.

George - Exhaust is indeed a Milltek, was only fitted the day before it went in for a detail.

Like to smaller plates, have you had any issues with them and where are they from?
