Don't know a huge amount about this as I'm looking at an OEM satnav myself.
If its the rns-510 unit then they are very good and should be touch screen.
I'm sure someone else more knowledgable will be along soon.

Depends on the age of the GTi, early ones had the MFD2 which is a bit slow and awkward to use imo, no 3D view, CD/DVD mapping and no touch screen..
Later cars will have the MFD3 (RNS510) which is a much better unit, touchscreen, hard drive, SD card slot, plays DVDs, 3D view and much faster and slicker to use..
Neither imo is as good at being purely a satellite navigation device as the mid range TomTom i have in my van, no full postcode search unless you have the very latest maps and firmware but as an entertainment unit with sat nav the RNS510 is hard to beat imo :happy2:

Also early models, 2007 and before, don't have TMC (VW didn't pay for the licence or something) so the live traffic information is not streamed, making it useless, later ones (after Dec 2007) are ok, so I am told.

Is it possible to retro-fit s a satnav?? & what are the costs?

Yeah it's a relatively easy retro fit, under 15 mins to swap mine now
Cost wise you'd be looking around £450 for a good quality unit, £25 for the antenna adapter if not included in the sale :happy2:

Got a link for the car?
If we can see pics of the sat nav then we can let you know which one it is.
