....
Does anyone know how to remove them, please? Any special tools needed?
I need to remove them for carbon vinyl wrapping and then reinstate them.
Thanks for any help :happy2:
-
iir they are just clipped on, i know the dash ones are and i think the doors are too :happy2:

Cheers.
I've got the ETKA exploded drawings my dealer gave me and it certainly looks that way. The Service Desk didn't know but I know the boss of their bodyshop so he might know.
My concern is not busting them tugging them off whilst not losing any bits down the door internals and being able to fix them back properly and evenly.
:happy2:

they come off quite easy but can also bend easily, i had mine off a while back to find a rattle. dont worry if they bend though they straighten back. and i think it would be hard to lose any clips :happy2: all the clips seem lose without the strips though
-
Let me know how you get on Robin then ill give it a go haha..

....But if you wrap them you'll be adding weight!

....So you can pull them off without removing any door cards etc?
Any tool which is best to use as a lever?
Start in the middle? End?
[You can tell how good I am at such things!]

I would say get something reasonably pliable to try and pry them out with, if you use something of a hard material then I can image they would crack or something.. Just depends how well they are clipped down :scared:

Sounds like a job for a nylon spatula type thingy.

....Hmm, I'm thinking aloud....How can I help? If you are serious and your 'painted' ones are professionally done so the paint actually stays on the trim!
Would a future buyer of my car want to remove the carbon wrap? I doubt it actually - The car ain't going back to standard - Would you take all your child's toys away from them? - Nooooo!
I'll PM my landline - Give me a call.

Shame yours is 3-door and mine a 5-door, Jay, otherwise you could have paid me £1,000 and we could have done a straight swop.
Catch ya another time, mate :drinking:
-
haha! yep its a shame i couldnt line your pockets that way! ;)
And the best thing for those trim strips, you can get those out with some decent pry tool. i.e Bojo Pry tools

£30 or so, but they are invaluable to me. you really cant be without these if you want to do "safe" interior work.
-

Thanks for that link, Jay :happy2:
Trouble is, it would cost me £30 for what is probably a once-in-a-lifetime use! That's nearly half of what the trim wrapping will cost me inc vat.
-
no worries, for someone like me, who does a lot of interior work, there a fabuolous set to have! ;)
-
VC has taken his off to paint Robin, maybe worth a PM to wake him up!

...Cheers, Nath :happy2: - Will do.
wigit has PM'd me a whole thread with pics too - Excellent but no time yet to sort it for GTI, trim strip only, consumption yet. Will do so later today hopefully. Off to wash my car.............

....I'm back home now and have done the deed - I'll edit that Rocco post and post a new one here under How To's and I'll credit the guy for his pics and info.
So.....soon, guys :happy2:
My upholstery guy turns out to be a friend of a friend and lent me a set of those nice blue polythingy tools and also a star-bolt doer/undoer (sounds Dutch) for next week.

i started at the ends and the door card def stays on, and as above the best things are those plastic trim remover thingys :happy2:

My driver side aluminium door trim has developed a rather irritating rattle lol - so will be removing and putting a bit of double sided tape behind it to stop that!

....Be careful not to break any more of the rather fragile plastic fixings when removing/refixing. These strips aren't really designed to be taken on and off by VW's customers!

I suspect the previous owner broke one of the clips, hence why it makes a noise unless I press it in!
It's not that loud, just irritating, 9 times out of 10 the stereo will drown out any rattles, after all, I am in Essex
