As above really guys, the Golf is going soon :popcornsoda: and I am replacing it with a Mk1 Leon Cupra R and I am trying to work out how similar they are to the above really. Now I am aware the engines is a 1.8t like the old GTI but what about underpinnings? Like suspension components etc?
-
great car loved my old 225 version and they are a good car out of the box i.e. good brakes, wheels, engine and inside is s3 dash and try get recaro buckets in it if you can and the factory nav too and they do drive like the ed30/mk5 golf great car

They share the same platform as the Mk4 Golf, Mk1 Audi TT etc. Which is widely regarded as a piss poor chassis. The Mk1 Leon Cupra R is meant to be the best handling car out of the bunch though.

If your a racing driver you will notice the chassis is not as good, whenever I drive an mk5 it feels just like my old Cupra r, but dare I say it the lcr looks better. I loved mine and would have another.

Chassis is nothing like a Mk5 though. You dont get independent rear suspension on the Mk1 LCR.

Never said it was, all I said was both cars feel very similar, I'm Sure you could tell if you were to track them both and drive hard but 99 percent of the time you wouldn't notice.

Thanks for the reply guys. It is a 2004 225 model I have put a deposit on, std car, not sure where to focus mods. I'm guessing handling because the power is enough for now. I'm open to suggestions because I guessed a few of you guys would have owned one.
There is no nav and I believe it to be std interior etc

They handle ok, once you've made a few choice mods - they just suffer from sloppy bush design, poor geometry and the H&S brigade building in understeer.
Look up DEFCON wishbone inserts, poly the other end too. Rear ARB and have the geo set up properly.

Bought my Leon today :) I like it, seems to stick well and goes well! Will update with some pictures etc when I have taken some!

:congrats: enjoy the car mate.

Couple of questions for anyone that might know, I have a forge 007p fitted but its very quiet on dump. I believe its a recirc rather than atmosphere but would like an option to get a bit of noise.
Any ideas?

Yeah it did was a good car that one and yep blueflame and dynatwist filter job done for noise
-
stick with the re-circ on the 1.8T - its how its meant to be.
Get a filter and exhaust.
Out the box the LCR was a great car, much better than the alternative Mk4 GTI at the time.
-
LCR are great cars i had 2 , the recaro interior is quite rare , even had recaro rear seat ! had my last one remapped by custom code turned a good car into an amazing one :driver:
-
They dropped the rear recaro seats in the later model. I had the fronts only in mine.
I went Revo :happy2:
-
my 53 reg had the rear recaro seats , that was the later model , i think
-
Mine was an 04 when they removed them.
One thing which was good on the 225 model was the steering wheel
-
I too had one (Emotion Red) before my ED30 and will echo comments on them being a great all rounder. Had Revo Stage 1 (about 260bhp) and went very well to be fair (14.0 1/4 mile).
Mine had stock suspension set up though and although it handled ok, it was a lot more barge-like compared to the Ed30..

Drive, comfort and ride not as good as the mk5 but then it's not going to be as that's the replacement chassis/engine. Not saying that's it was bad, mine was standard suspension too.
