So I am having fogs installed on my car but however need a new switch as the current one is not able to function with the front fogs... Ive come across an auto headlight switch but if I install that how would I make the auto function work as would I need sensors?.. The function of the fogs will work with this switch.. But I wouldnt mind having an auto switch aswell

I think you will need a new interior mirror with all the sensors attached and then some....... :scared:

When the switch is set to auto, the lights will just stay on constantly. if you have coming/leaving home feature turned on then that will work when set to that position.

You seem like you know what your talking about pal, if you could develop it would be great!

Yeah im going to be installing the coming/leaving home features but interested in having the lights come on automatically themselves aswell

There's a guide for it:

Not really, but thanks.... :notworthy:
All I do know is that the mirror on swmbo's Golf has all the sensors for the rain sensitive wipers and the auto lights, so you would need this. Not sure how much for that but an arm and a leg springs to mind! I would assume you will then need to rewire to a certain extent, to get power to the sensor, so roof lining down and a pillar trim removed. One of the many forum electronic experts will be able to advise better. :drinking:
Edit: I think the above guide would put me off the idea tbh! :scared:

I've done this on my mk5 sport and tbh....piece of piss...lol
get the windscreen changed from a proper place (get it done through insurance and when you ring tell them you have the rain sensor, they'll send the rain sensor one, but make sure you have the correct rear view mirror to hand)
i got the mirror/sensor wiring out of a wrecked GTI so got kinda lucky, otherwise you have to makeup the loom as per that guide
shammy, no need to have the roof lining out! just tie the end of the new wiring loom to a wire coat hanger and very carefully poke it out toward the end of roof lining with the grab handle removed and you should be able to fish it out then run it down the a-pillar, under the glove box, behind the stereo and steering wheel and into the CECM, plug into the correct pins and away you go! easy peasy after a bit of vag-com!
i've retrofitted a load of stuff to my golf my self, at the moment in the process of fitting auto-levelling bi-xenons, headlight washers, low wash fluid and TPMS all in one go using a wiring harness i'm making up myself from salvaged connectors, pins from the parts counter and salvaged connectors from the breakers....easy peasy with elsawin at hand!lol
Shammy, are you fitting fogs the 'proper' CECM way or using a relay?
