Turbo (you would see smoke i.e blue/exhaust)
Piston rings (compression test to see, again smoke out of exhaust.)
Valve stem seals

or a possible leak somewhere.

What sort of consumption are you experiencing?

VW class up to 1 litre/600miles as within spec...

Black smoke is unburnt fuel (over-fuelling) , blue smoke is oil burning  :happy2:

Interesting...  :happy2: I'm probably just below that, but it feels a lot, especially when the oil is £45 for 4L.
I thought mine had a problematic hunger for oil, but after standard checks and no bad reports in VCDS, I've carried on and it runs sweetly as ever.

Apparently the new 1.4 TSI unit is even thirstier on oil, so perhaps we should consider ourselves lucky?  :stupid:

Ok guys cheers for that, supose i need more checks doin! Racing a focus st the other day and engine managment light came on, then it started missing ans spluttering, took her to the garage got vagcom plugged in and it turns out i needed a new coilpack on cylinder 4, after doin that started her back up and it burnt a spark plug out. Put 4 new plugs in and it seems to be running fine now, apart from the smoke!!!

£45 for 4L is well overpriced

20L of Longlife 3 VW certified oil is only £57 from VW TPS!

VW say 1,000 miles to a litre I believe, the salesman likes to tell you that to get you off his back. My 1.4TSI in rocco doesn't use a drop and its done 47k!
