Title: refurb by Wheel wizard Staffordshire anybody used them? I did!
Post by: Mingle on December 23, 2011, 11:59:03 am
I use him to refurb some pescaras for my golf, I'm not to impressed tbh!

1) the finish on the wheels are like sand paper

2) 2 tyres now keep going down every other day ( been told this is because he didn't use tyre seal after he has broke the bead, spoke to him and he tells me he never has used it in 6 years) says he will drop £25 off for me to get it done (great) but the money has never been dropped off

3) 1 wheel is darker than the others ( 1 was black the others were silver, I defo know he didn't primmer them)

£130 and it took him 4 hours

just wanted know what other people think or is it just mobile van in general?
Or it could be just a 1 off and there normally very good.

thanks look forward to hearing from you all

i'm afraid it's probably an example of the old saying "pay cheap, pay twice". £130 is nothing to have 4 wheels refurbished

Thanks lads think it's a defo next time I will get them done by the pro's. It seems people say they are wheel refurbers but in truth all they have done is gone on a day course and payed for a franchised named van :)

Live and learn I think another saying is lol

They look the dogs :)

update- I phoned him last night to no answer 4 times, so I texted him told him what I thought of the finish and said I would be getting in touch with the wheel wizard boss :) as it's been 2 weeks. Straight away he texted me back to say he was ill and he had not forgot about the £25 and he would get his misses drop it down to me, so there I am today wrapping some prezzies as a car pulls up and some one jumps out and quicky shoves a letter though the door and then rushes off "lol" it was a scruffy used letter with £30 inside the extra £5 must be to keep me sweet lol

So all in all I paid £100 for the refub, it should last me till the summer then I think I will get the pro's on them :)

I will try get some pictures up next week

There's this place, too, if you're looking in the Midlands.

I know a few people who have used laptab years ago and they were very cheap but awful finish, both had their wheels redone at a1. They may have improved since I guess.

Never used them myself, just remember someone recommending them on another forum a while back. Always look for reviews, it's what the internet is for!

Team Dynamics did mine and did an excellent job. They were cheaper than A1 quoted too. Only downside is they take a week to 10 days but they do have loan wheels.

try www.inspraytionsmartrepair.co.uk

it's my website, i run a wheel refurb company in kent. we do both types of finish, full powdercoated or just face only tidy ups and charge accordingly for what we do. if anyone needs any advice on wheel refurbs feel free to call me 07977 851 714. I'll always gladly have a chat with people who need questions answered. I won't try to sell you the most expensive refurb and if there is something I can't do i will put you in touch with people who can. I treat people how i like to be treated.

By the way, this isn't just some random plug... i own a black 55 plate gti and use this site for reading up on it.

All the best,

sean.

Won't use A1 again but City Powder Coaters in Digbeth did my 17" Merc alloys for £100 all in. Inside and out fully powder coated in Hyper chrome and laquerd too!

Yes they fully strip them first :happy2:

I had a set of 5, Audi 5 spoke (16") alloys done by city powdercoaters last year, (they did my old winter wheels that SWMBO is now using on her MK5), the finish was not 100% but TBH I think that is purely because the wheels were in a very poor corroded state when they went in (bubbling everywhere).
I am seriously considering using them for her summer wheels.

Citypowdercoaters http://www.citypowdercoating.co.uk/ (http://www.citypowdercoating.co.uk/)  work:

I have tried Lepson's before because I was told they were the best .... but I left there seriously unimpressed with their work and attitude. (that was on a 6 month old OE wheel also!)

The 'shadow' you can see below is actually a difference in the paint colour! - there was no damage previously here either, there was also several (6 IIRC) silicone spots ('fish eyes') in the finish also  :sad1:

Hi,

£45 per wheel,

we look after your car for 3 days at our workshop while we do the refurb,
remove tyres,
strip old paint off,
shot blast wheel inside and out,
and kerb damage is smoothed out,
powdercoated in what ever colour required,
powdercoat lacquered (gloss / matt)
tyres put back on wheels using new valves,
wheels balanced and put back on car.

Just to let you know, my prices may be higher than some and lower than others, i can't comment on these companies, but me and my colleague put a lot of effort into what we do, we aim to impress and use very high end products so we can get the best results.

Cheers
