I currently have some budget tyres on my GTI which were on it when I bought it unfortunately and I am getting fed up with them so I wanna look at getting some better tyres. Anyone got an idea of what are descent tyres but not too costly? :happy2:
Thanks.

i've got Falken FK452s and i like them. (i'm awaiting a flaming from other members tho, many of whom will probably go on about how if you're not rocking Toyo R888s your car must be a shed and not looked after properly, and i will definitely have a huge accident and be killed to death the next time i even look at the accelerator pedal :signLOL:). i paid about £70 a corner delivered from camskill, then spent £12 a corner getting them fitted at an independent. they are just as good as the Toyo Proxes T1-Rs i had on before.
i had Cooper Zeon CS6s on my old A3 and they were pretty good for a mid range tyre too
would definitely change them tho with winter upon us, and as a general rule of thumb you should go for the best tyre you can afford

Vredesteins ultrac sessanta!!! Very good tyre and £105 from camskill. When I bought my car it had budget crap tyres, changed the fronts to the Vreds and just waiting for the rears to need replacing then Vreds will go on there too. Massive difference to handling!!!

Another thumbs up for Falken 452's... :happy2:
Paid around £360 for all four delivered from Camskill... then a tenner to have them all fitted..

I had falken 452 and i thought they were pretty turd... but they are cheap.

Had the Vreds on mine but just changed to Conti sport 3. Better ride i find than the Vreds.

Had Conti Sport 2s when the car was new. Not bad. Then I had two sets of GY Eagle Asymmetrics, great tyres, brilliant in the wet or dry very progressive. But I had one tyre that got a puncture and one that got an egg on the side wall (Not the only person on here to do so). In the low temperatures that we have had the last two winters, they were not very good in the snow and ice, once you were going they were ok, it was just the getting going was the problem.
Went to a set of Vreds, very good tyres not as progressive as the GYs but the ride is better. Much better in snow and at low temps too.
Went out in a new Audi TT tsi 211ps a couple of weeks ago, it was loosing traction in 3rd gear and I was driving with care!!. The tyres were Bridgestone Potenza RE050A. I couldn't believe how poor the traction was in the damp. I would avoid these.

I have a set of 452s and compared to my usual choice they are pretty pants but were a stop gap for commuting / autum.
Although they're not high performance they're very very good value for
Money.

I'm on Pirelli P Zero Rosso's, (the assymetric pattern). Brilliant tyres, I paid 100 per corner plus VAT including fitting, valves and balancing.
These seem to be rated as the best tyres for the MK5 GTi, apart from Michelin Pilot Sports which are about 50 quid a corner more expensive.
For the sake of 25 quid a corner, you can go from mid-range to a top of the line premium tyre from Pirelli.
I reckon putting mid-range tyres on a car like this is like letting Usain Bolt do the 100m in Reebok Classics! :signLOL:

Had Vreds on mine and just replaced with Continental contisport 3. The local VW dealer (Gilders) matched an online price from blackcircles and did an excellent job (replacing the coil packs under recall and washing the car too - bonus!!)

..........how do you find them?. I did the same 2 weeks ago & have to say they are better than the Vreds, tho many on here swear by them.

I think they're great, the grip is so much better - there's a road near here where the ABS light always flashes no matter which gear I'm in / how fast or slow I'm going. Since I've had the Contisports the grip is so much better that it doesn't come on.
