Title: Bonnet bra - Yes or No?
Post by: Matt_greig on December 23, 2011, 01:43:43 pm
I like the look of bonnet bra's but I've read both good and bad things about them and just wanted to get peoples opinions who has had one with either good or bad experience? I don't wanna get my bonnet all scratched.

I was thinking that for winter they are probably worth it, but whether they look good is down to the owner. sometimes I like them and sometimes i don't.

In my opinion; for functionality yes.  If placed on a clean bonnet and not left on for days on end will help avoid stone chips on lOng journeys.

i have one as i do alot of motorway mileage

i personally think they look horrible but they are very very practical

they deffo work and prevent stonchips etc

it really annoys me when people have them on and its raining as this can really damamge the paintwork

always make sure the surface is cleaned before it is put on and the indide of the bra is clear of debris

do not leave on for long periods of time and always remove when its raining or wet

I use a full bra on my RS4, they look sh*t but it does save the front end from getting peppered.........
I removed it each week and vacuumed the felt on the inside to remove any dirt or the like.
By doing this, I experienced no paint damage.

If you leave it on and don't keep it clean I think you'd be needing some paint correction come the summer.

On the Focus Rs we can get kits of vinyl in clear that we put across the front of the bonnet, the rear quaters and front bumpers.

Any one thought of doing that on the cars? you could then put the bra over top and not worry about sctaches and take it off and still be protected.

VW supply these stone protection kits, I understand they cover the front bumper, the front 1/3rd of the bonnet and the mirror housings.
Made using 3M film.

"No" from me.
You protect from stone chips if used properly, but you car looks (in my opinion) awful while you're using it.

I have a full bra for mine, not just the bonnet one as the splitter gets chipped easily, and I am having my bonnet resprayed in a couple of weeks.
The respray will mean the paint is not as strong and hard as when the original was supplied, and I don#t fancy another pay out to paint it again.

I guess it depends which you think looks worse: Bonnet bra or stone chips. Personally I'd take a few stone chips.

Here's my R32 sporting one... Kept the stone chips away, just don;t keep on for too long as moisture softens the paint! ;)
