Title: RNS 510 firmware 4020 and 3980
Post by: flyboy1976 on December 24, 2011, 01:11:22 pm
Two questions....anyone tried or been able to obtain the 4020 F/W yet and what are the differences with 3980 over 3970? I think I read somewhere it was a Skoda RNS specific improvement...is this correct?

Happy Xmas  :santa:

40xx is for D and above units

The 39xx software is for B and C units

The 4xxx series firmwares are currently factory install only. There are a few H revision units starting to come through which have HW Version 61 and Firmware 4xxx series installed. I'm led to believe these are 40gb / faster processor models and include DAB/DVB. I haven't physically seen one yet (only pictures) so can't comment if that is true or not.

What I can tell you is it will only work on the following model RNS at present:

1T0035680D
1T0035680F
1T0035680G
3T0035680B
3T0035680C
3T0035680D
7F0035680A
7E0035680A

As with the 3xxx series originally only working on C revision units, give it a few months and a version will be released to work on previous versions. I think you will find that all support for both A & B revision Units will dropped same as all support for A revision units was dropped with 3xxx firmware.

So by my reckoning the firmwares will go something like

A Revision units - All firmware up to 284x
B Revision units - All firmware from 110x up to 398x
C Revision units - All firmware from 268x up to 398x currently with support for 4xxx series to come at some point
D Revision units - All firmware from 3xxx onwards

HTH

Be interesting to know about the H units having DAB/DVB.. Eddie-nl has had one for a few weeks so maybe he could shed some light on this

Finally fitted my H unit today, nothing new to report. Came with V8 maps installed and no new options in the coding.

Rumours, rumours. Wait till somebody has a DAB capable unit first. The unit versions seem to be changing regularly at the moment, every few months or so. Unlike the days of A/B's.

You already can (and have been able to for some time) specify a RNS-510 with DAB in a Golf and a Skoda Superb. The Superb also has DVB(T)

So is it an add on for the DAB or a different version again?

Actually, I take my comment back, I've heard some evidence from a Czech user over on VWNavi that there has been several DAB sample units found.
